during her sporadic and seldom visitation. We no longer allow him to spend the night there because he had no proper place to sleep. She went and lost that apartment and now rents a bedroom in someone's condo.
Any thoughts?

In response to "momma": I'm not sure that I made a reference to the situation being perverted. Just not proper. There comes an age in a childs life where they dont need to be in their underwear in an adults bed, there must be a guideline, no? I'm surprised that people think this is okay. I'm a mother as well- and think there comes a time when a child (especially one that is nearing puberty soon) doesnt need to be in mommys bed.

would you not find it strange if a daddy crawled into his 9 year old daughters bed? same thing- even if it's innocent- which i believe it is- its not proper.

wow,that's weird.
I wouldn't like that either---
she needs to seek some help! Her 9 year old should be in PJ's and in his own room.

This is a situation borne of necessity and it seems the answer is obvious get a bed for the child. Even if he must sleep in the same room as his mom for now. Alternately you could help the mom get a sofa bed or futon so she can give her son the bed and sleep on the couch. It seems to me that this is a financial situation and also one of nurture but since the child is getting older he should learn to sleep alone. The cheapest answer is one of those inflatable beds ($20 for a camping style or $99 for and Areo bed). Instead of looking at the problem look for a solution. I am sure she won't mind the offer of a private bed for her child as I am sure she is aware of the need. Good Luck!

Yeah, I'm gonna get thumbs down but I don't see the problem. The only thing that I think should be different is he should be in at least some sweat pants or shorts and the mother should be in PJ's that cover her or a shirt and shorts.

All over the world people share beds with their children. In America we don't. Other countries kids are better off, they do better in school, they are able to control themselves better. My son occasionally sleeps with me still. No big deal It kind of sounds like you both don't want your step son to see his mom. Don't be so judgmental. And, no I would not have a problem with a father sleeping with his daughter BTW. Just because a child sleeps with their mother OR father it doesn't mean it's something bad. You guys are doing the boy a great disservice by making him stay away from his mom. Shame on you. That will come back and get you.

I know I'm one of the odd (wo)men out here, but I think it's a little weird. Then again, it's common practice in some cultures for children to share a bed with their parents/grandparents. How does the 9-year-old boy feel about this arrangement??

There is nothing wrong with your child curling up in bed with you! If there was more going on then well yeah...but honestly what is the big deal with your child wanting to sleep in the same bed with their mommy..It is no different than him falling asleep on the floor and sleeping there with their mom..I htink someone is making this out to be the wrong way!!

True, all children should have a bed of their own. If she is unfit and cannot provide the proper items the child needs, visitation needs to be monitored. On the other hand, sometimes we have a 10 y/o and a 2 y/o in bed with us. It is no big deal. One gets scared and the other follows straight to our room where the kids sleep in the middle with their 40 stuffed animals and we cling to the edges of a king size bed. I guess it depends on the situation. I do not believe sleeping with your children is wrong. I do believe that parents who have any form of overnight visitation should have a bed, cot, couch, whatever, for the child to sleep on alone.

It's her son. Who the heck cares if he sleeps in his undies in her bed? If she's not molesting him then there is nothing wrong with that. As far as renting a bedroom in someone's condo, if it's a safe place then I don't think it matters. Many women have to live in shelters with their kids. At least she's able to provide a place for her child. BTW, who are you to say she can't have her child. Shouldn't the court decide that????

I don't see anything wrong with it if her house is warm, and plus my kids 8 and 10 that are boys LOVE to sleep in just their unmentionables, and with Mom? Who cares! It's his MOM. I see nothing wrong with it, and maybe they can't afford another bad so if thats what it takes to have your son, nothing wrong with that, if the boy wanted to wear clothes I think he would. Buy him some shirt that he loves, or pajamas, take him shopping and offer to buy him a pair of his favorite jammies for a pre Christmas gift. Gives him options to have proper clothing if he doesn't already have some. Some people don't like clothing against their skin in bed, I DON'T EITHER! but I wear them anyway.

My 7 year old son still likes to jump in bed and sleep with me sometimes. What's the big deal.

If the situation is due to a lack of finances, I don't see anything wrong with it. It seems a bit odd that he'd WANT to sleep in just his undies, but it's his mom, not his sister.
