Hi, how about personalized books? Kids love to hear their own name in the storyline. Go to this website http://www.tlc-expressions.com They have lots of titles like Sesame Street, Three Little Pigs, Teddy Bear Land, Ballerina Princess, Little Mermaid, Noah's Ark, Sports titles and so many more. Check it out - they're very reasonably priced, and make a wonderful, unique & special gift... It's something they can enjoy now and keep forever!! Good Luck!

Play dough - great stuff loads of fun and excellent for tactile development, Lego's, Candy Land, Mr Potatohead or if the child is allowed on the computer you could get Jump Start kindergarten. The 1year old is easy just get a cuddly doll like Raggedy Ann with the story book for mom to read her. Have Fun!

For the 4 year old you can get coloring books and crayons, regular books if she is reading already. You can also get her a couple of Barbie dolls. For the 1 year old you can get her some of the big fat Legos, a couple of snugglies (soft doll, teddy bear etc). Or you could just get both of them an outfit if you are unsure of what kind of toy to get.

learning toys, always.
The 4 year old anything hands on. Flash cards, early readers, puzzles, step bu step coloring.
The 1 year old, just go down any toy aisle at any store, and chose something with blocks, moving parts, safe of course, something they have to figure out.
Those are the fun years to buy for kids. My nieces are 12 & 14 and their parents' are very strict on what they can have... Target gift cards!!!
