My son will be 9 right after christmas. Last year I tried to take him with 3 or 4 friends snow boarding. But, no snow. So I ended up taking him with 9 other kids to mcdonalds and the movies. I spent a fortune on candy, juice, and food. Then we went back to the house for cake and games. (not to mention parents came late and I had 5 kids for an extra 1 1/2! Any ideas for things to do this year? Fun and not too expensive?! Let me know!

ice skating at a rink ... not tremendously expensive, doesn't depend on the weather outside, and really fun (where we live it's $3/kid). ask at your rink if they do parties (then you could have the cake there and not worry about transporting everybody. my 6-year-old had a skating party last year and my 8-year-old also invited her friends. we actually rented out the rink (somewhat more expensive, but easier to keep track of everyone and still cheaper than your typical gymnastics or swimming party) and everyone had a blast. Most of the parents wound up staying because they could skate too and they were having as much fun as the kids.

edit -- or a sleepover ... a good excuse to limit the number of the kids, and you don't need to actually do much because they're having so much fun just from the idea of sleeping over.

have a Jimmy Neutron Party.

decarate idea

large groups of red, yellow and black helium balloons paired with large Jimmy Mylar Heads throughout the party area

Games to play

The first game is Pop the Yokian - each child is given a blown up balloon, and they had to sit/bounce on them until they popped. The theme from the jimmy Neutron movie playing on the radio as they bounce.

all the children get to pick a prize once they popped their balloons. Prizes can be Pencils,Erasers, gum balls.

goddie bag things include

Stickers, Glow in the Dark Necklaces,m&m's,thank-you card

My little brother's birhtday is right before christmas and last year my mom had a Birthday Breakfast for him and his friends. We had eggs, pancakes, bacon, Oj, hot chocolate etc... It was great they had breakfast and had a few games and movie and everybody was gone by lunch time. He had a great time and was going to have the samething this year but decided he wanted a video game instead. But give it try the kids might enjoy it. It's something different.

you could have him invite his friends over to your house and go to the dollor store and purchase simple things and they can watch movies or you can send an invitation out that you are planning on going somwere like a movie and ask that each child comes with so much money to buy there own candy and pop and you pay for the rest
