Adolescent - May 2007

Don't you guys think that adolescent catagory of Y!A needs to branch off a new catagory called 'teen pregnancys'?

Seriously, so many of the questions in this catagory are.... 'I just had sex with my boyfriend could I be pregnant?' and etc. Even these questions come from children as young as 12.

Where are these children's parents? Why are they not out there doing things teens should be doing?

I'm not some old lady ranting and raving about this. I am a teen. I'm 17. I'm not Chrisitian, but I've managed to keep it in my pants!


I understand that some of these Y!A users are just bored and are trying to amuse themselves.

I'm also not putting down these people but I do not believe that Y!A is the place to be asking these questions. That's why there are health clinics and parents and phone lines.


Sex isn't a game. It's dangerous. Why can't teens concentrate on their studies and leave sex for when they are mature enough to deal with the consequences???

My 14 year old friend ran away from home and I'm able to talk to her online, but she won't tell me where shes staying. She's been running away for about 4-5 months now, and she really wants to go home, but she doesn't want to be placed in a foster home or a juvenile detention center, she's scared to what will happen to her. How can I convince her to go home, and what will happen to her? oh and I don't know why she ran away in the first place, but I do know shes seriously stressed.

im 29, my daughter is 12, she has a bf, and she nos i do not approve, and every thing that i say she gets mad about. we havnt gotten along since her mother passed, wen i ask her 2 watch her sister, who is 6 months, she always tells me "shes not my baby, u watch her" and then she leaves, i cannot hit her, and i dont like 2 yell at her, but when i do she says im a bad father, well bac 2 the bf issue, she spends all of her time with him, and its showing in her school marks, she used 2 get A's and B's now shes getting C's and D's, i dont want her 2 drop out of school, or end up like her mothe and me,my wife had her when she was 14 and i was 15, and i dont want that for my daughter, i dont no what to do for her, we cant talk any more like we used 2, so please if u have any suggestions, i would LOVE 2 hear them

I have a 16yr old neice who just broke up with the boyfriend her parents didn't want her to have in the first place. Not that they didn't like the boy, but thought her too young to be serious.
After dating 9 months she came to realize her school marks were suffering. She is very busy with the BL program in school, involved in band, youth group with church etc. She plans to go to University and decided she needed at this point in her life to concentrate on her future and school.
I applaud her and think this is so awesome.
Wouldn't you be proud of a young girl making such a decision, or do you think it more important she experience dating at this age? Just curious, oh and by the by, they are still friends and she is very popular.

So i have been datin this guy for about 5 months coming up on 6 on the 27 of may..he loves me in know he does because i'm his first for everything...being his g/f in all i think that i have a say in this he says that he really wants this and so do i have dont have a problem with it,...i want it just as much as he does but i'm 16 and my mom would kill me and so would my family but i dont really care what they think its somthing i really want and he keeps telling me its all up to me and some guys would care less about somthing like that but he wants this and so do i but is it a bad idea to have a child at this age,,we have money and all that covered all i want to know is if i will be some angry depressed person after all this,,,and i know that all of you are ganno tell me i'm to young thanks you thats is what my mom is for but if you must...go ahead....THanks

My daughter is failing school, only passed one subject this whole year of grade 10. She used to be a straight A student. She skips school constantly and has been suspended too many times to count.
I have tried grounding, she goes out anyway. I have taken away all priviliges, cell phone, computer, tv etc etc. She doesn't seem to care. If I tell her she's not allowed to go somewhere, she goes anyway. She has no respect for me as a parent.
The other day, I kicked her out of the house. I know she is at a friends house and know she is safe. I want her home, but not with the disrespect she gives to me.
Help??????

hi. well you see my problem is that, well i feel guilty. i lost my virginity to an a**. well that was like 10 months ago and im not with him anymore. he left me. well my mom keeps asking me if i am still a virgin and i say yes. but i feel bad. but i dont wanna tell her that i am becuase i know i will hurt her feelings. we have barely turned Christian about 3 months ago and i feel like i will be rejected if i tell them that i am not. you see they {her and my dad} are now more religous and i think that she will bare to hear that. but everytime she asked i feel bad to tell her the truth.

So just recently, something kinda bad happened.
I hung out with my guy friends (both are exes) at one of the guy's houses. So, after a few hours of just hanging out, they asked me to flash them. I did. It didn't seem like a big deal at the time. It was one breast for a single second, and then it was done. Nothing else happened.
However, after I left I began to worry if what I did was wrong. I vowed not to tell my friends, because I was sure I would get judged and labeled, and I just didn't want that. So I told another guy friend of mine who I trusted severely. I just wanted to know if it was something to stress over.

Anyway, come today... I realize he told all the kids in his advanced math class what I did. Most of these people are my friends, so they confronted me as asked if it was true (they didn't look too pleased about it.) I ran off and started crying. After a few hours, everybody knew.

I was made fun of. Given nasty comments. Strange faces. Everything. What do I do?

I can't understand how those things can happen thse days. Everybody knows their consequences, how they destroy the addict's health, mind, emotion stabilty and ruin his or her life. Everybody knows and teens can think, they are not stupid. Everyubody knows smoking is one of the causes of lung cancer.
When I was a teen, in the middle 60's, smoking was seen as something charming, elegant, and even macho. So. many boys smoked to fell grown up, to feel macho. But today no one this smoking or taking drugas is macho, or elegant or anthing good. I really can't understand

Sorry this is long, but i really need help. Please help.
In grade school, I was the kid made fun of. I grew out of that in 7&8th grade, but then home issues started. I won't go into detail, because it was extremely messed up. Every day and night there was fighting and yelling. Then my parents sent me to an all-guys, college prep school. I was a smart kid in grade school, but i was just above average in high school. my parents were not pleased, still holding me to my grade school standards. i seemed to lose focus, and became very angry. things continued as normal, still major problems at home, i still hated school, with almost no friends and constant pressure being put on me. obviously at this point the obvious solution seems to talk to someone, but our family has never been open and talked with each other. also, because of all the problems, i feel like i've been hardened, cause i never wanted to look like it affected me in front of my younger sister.

She has no respect for us. She refuses to help out. Drops the f bomb in front of 4 & 5 yr old brothers. Won't do chores. We've taken away all privileges and she doesn't care. Says she hates it here. Is there like a boot camp or even just a family atmosphere type place that would make her understand that we aren't asking for much, just respect and a helping hand once in a while. We really aren't that awful but she treats everyone in the fam like the stuff on the bottom of her shoe.

I'm 17 yrs old and when i get my period i use pads. I've tried to use tampons and some how i cant put it right.

it either falls or its annoying and i feel it inside and it bugs me...

right now i'm in like a big problem because i got my period but i don't remember where are my pads. my mom doesn't get her period so yeah... and she is completely against me using tampons because its for those girls who have had sex, which is false but whatever... and the malls are close and i only have my last pad on me..

so please just give me advices on how to put the tampon right..

and yes ive read the instructions but i dont know what i do wrong.

I talked with a therapist, expert in parents/kids relationships, especially teens, and she told me we must be very careful whith the kind of message we send our kids when we don't approve of their behavior, especially when we are angry. She emphasized some points we must be especially careful with:
We should never say I don't love you or I dont like you, but I don't like the way you behave. We should never say You're a bad kid, but you're behaving like a bad kid; We should never say something like I don't trust you or you're not trustworthy, but while you keep behaving this way, I can't trust you. The reason, she thinks, is it kinda important we show our kids we love them and think they are trustworthy, but are behaving in a so bad way that for now we can't trust. So, we send them the message that we trust they are good and can be trusted when they are themselves, but they for now they are not being trustworthy. The reason is to distinguish a permanente condition from a temporary one.

in todays youth, I mean kids 10-14/15.
Their out of control.
Their disrespectful, spoiled, and skanky.
I mean if I hear about one more pregnant 13/14 yearold Ima scream.
