Pregnancy & Parenting - 1 August 2007

A good friend of mine bought me a 3D gender determining ultrasound package, including one 20 week quick scan to see the sex of the baby, and another scan around 30 weeks just for fun.

I've read all about the potential dangers of 3D ultrasound. However, everything is so inconclusive that I don't want to risk offending my friend (and wasting her money).

Does anyone know if there are more risks involved with a single 3D ultrasound? I'll basically be only getting one, and it won't go on for very long - it's not video.

I admit that I was being very rude to her, but isn't 16 a little old to start? I do not live in the USA where spanking is quite common, where I live I have never really heard of anyone getting spanked, and definately not in public. Plus, she spanked me bare butt. What do you think? BTW, I know she wasn't being abusive, she was trying to discipline me.

My boyfriend and I have been together for over 2 years. We are expecting our son Aug. 9th when I am being induced. We have lived together for almost 2 years. We talk about how it is great to become a family and he talks about how he wants to settle down, get married and be a good Dad. Recently, I got a letter from the apartment manager where we live that states we can only have one car and it is being changed to permit parking only beginning Aug. 10th. The extra car has to park on the street as do all visiters. He said to me "I will just have to get my own little place then". WHAT?! I said to him exactly how I feel about that, which was as nicely put as a nine month pregnant woman could put it. My point: We are not a family living in separate houses. I would feel abandoned with a newborn to take care of by myself. Plus, on my own with all the bills when I don't have a job and won't until 6 weeks after baby is born. So, I would feel walked out on.

this 8 year old in my cousins class came over to my cousins house one day. when they were sleeping my cousin (who is also 8) said that her friend licked her fingers and "rubbed" down there and said that she pretends boys are "kissing" down there. my cousin said she ran out of the room and slept somewhere else & they are not friends anymore.

I'm currently pregnant with my first child by my hubby, and am in my second trimester. However, the problem lies here - although I'm 22, I look no older than sixteen (some people say younger!). I'm very thin and short, which is a difficulty when looking for maternity clothes for one, and my "young" appearance gets me judged unnecessarily more often than not. I've had to explain on more than one occasion while shopping or going out I simply look young for my age. It makes me uncomfortable. Are there any suggestions for getting over this uneasiness and feeling like I'm being judged unfairly?

this is not a slam the formula feeders question so please nice answers from experienced moms only no rude comments.... did you feel liberated the first time you breastfed in a public place? I only recently did this week we were covered with a recieving blanket but I walked through the mall and walmart and felt very proud of being able to do so without my modesty or fear of rejection taking over I latched on in a fitting room as I feel that part is a bit revealing just my opinion.thanks for any stories ..........

I am only four months pregnant and already trying to figure out how I want to raise my baby from birth to eighteen. Like for instance, I do know that once my baby gets here, I don't want it to be held all the time by family members or my husband and I. But, I don't want to hurt my family members feelings. I am looking for great advice on how to raise my first child and how to tell my family members about how I want it done. My sister has three kids and all my family does is hold them when they were born and spoil them. I don't want to have that with my child. Two weeks ago i started giving my 4 month old rice cereal. I am wondering if it is ok to start letting her try new foods, and if so which ones? I am a single mother raising two boys ages 5 and 10. They are well-behaved, smart, and have total respect for me. However, someone questioned my parenting, saying that because they are in a single parent home, they will grow up to be convicts, losers, bums, etc. and someone else said they can't possibly be well-rounded without the love and support of both parents. When I was married, it was worse because all he did was contradict me and intimidate the kids...
