No babies do not need to crawl before they walk but it is good if they do. You can get down on the floor with him and crawl around with him to encourage him to crawl. Crawling is part of sequencing in the braind of a baby and if they do not crawl at all and just walk then their sequencing can be off. Studies have shown that babies who dont crawl at all are more likely to have hard time in math. I never thought my daughter would crawl she started pulling up and taking steps holding on to furniture but then one day out of nowhere she could crawl and she could do it good.
Dont worry I am sure that your son will do just fine

Not necessarily, there are babies that skip the whole crawling stage, and go straight to walking. He just learned a way to move around, that he's not interested in very much, all he wanted was a way to get to certain places so that he could stand up on his own.
My son did the same thing, he didn't even crawl for two weeks when he was already standing on his own in the playpen, he would actually let go, and stand by himself for long periods of time, right after that, he started walking. He walked when he was 10 months old, by his first birthday, he was an expert at it.
Good luck, now is when the fun really begins! lol!
God bless and Congratulations!

No. In the early 1970's there was a lot of argument in the pediatric community about this. Some said that walking before crawling was an error of sensory integration and that such children were more likely to have ADD/ADHD which at the time was termed Minimal Brain Damage.
Subsequent researchers concluded that walking before crawling has little or no predictive value for ADD/ADHD.
Sensory Integration covers a variety of activities and still has its adherents and detractors.

Mine did the same thing. He actually started the "army crawl" around 6 months. He just turned 10 months and started crawling on all 4's. Before he started crawling on all 4's he was pulling himself up on everything. I thought he was going to skip the real crawling step altogether but didn't. I read an article in this months babytalk about how important crawling before walking is. It seems to be a divided opinion. Its free to subscribe to and to read this article go to their website.

This is normal. he will get the hang or standing upright and coordinating his legs while leaning on things, which will actually help him learn to crawl. almost all the kids in my family have done this. it's because they see everyone walking on two legs, so they want to try that first, but eventually they realize that for now, it's easier to get around on all fours. Learning coordination is a big part of walking and crawling. My niece and nephew are both just past this stage (8 mo old twins). they crawl great now and are learning to walk quite well.

they don't need to crawl before they walk. but if he's starting to crawl then watch out! He'll get quicker at it before you know it. If he is just starting pulling himself up onto things and trying to walk then he'll probably still have a while before he actually walks. My son was pulling himself up too and starting to hold onto furniture at 8 months at the same time he started crawling. He's a year old now and just now starting to walk on his own. Is your son able to stand on his own? Can he take any steps at all on his own? If not then he'll probably be crawling before he's walking. Everybaby is different though. He needs to get those leg muscles stronger first!

no, they don't need to crawl at all.
crawling is not a developmental stage - it's quite important to baby's mobility if they do it or if they are keen to mvoe somehow, but it's not relevant to how they will become mobile generally.
The pulling themselves up and walking along whilst holding on, or 'cruising' IS a developmental stage and a stage toward walking, so it's great he is doing this :-)
My daughter only learned to crawl properly once she could walk - before then, she commando crawled.
Watch out for bumps on the head now! My daughter had red marks on her head permanently from cruising to well into walking time :-)

Hi, I'm a mother of 2 and both of my children crawled before they walked. But that is my kids. Every child is different and learns things in their own way. I've never heard of walking before crawling but I don't think it's impossible. It's unique and good for your baby. He is in a hurry!! lol....I think that if you just let him go at his pace then he will learn what he wants to learn first. And if that's walking before crawling...then good for him!!! Good luck with everything.

It helps their large motor skills to crawl or scoot. But my daughter did the same thing. She crawled for about 2 weeks, then started cruising. Every baby is different, but it sounds like your little guy just wants to walk, it's fine.
