Buy a food mill ($12 on amazon.com) and grind up your regular table food. We skipped all of the "2nd stage" and "toddler dinner" type baby foods because they not only taste bad, but aren't very nutritious (lots of crap in those Gerber toddler meals). Exposing my son to such a good variety of foods early on now means he eats really well and will try just about anything. I remember as a baby he loved hot & sour soup - go figure!
Don't worry about the amount of food your son is eating (if his pediatrician is content with his growth, you should be too.). Concentrate on offering a good variety of healthy foods and don't sweat it. They go through phases and they can be alarming, but are totally normal.
ps: try making "homemade" soup. Chop up veggies and/or cooked meat (great way to use up leftovers) and simmer in chicken or beef broth. I buy low sodium and always read the label to make sure there is no MSG. Add slightly undercooked noodles or rice and you've got a sure-fire hit!

My son was like this he would always stare at me eating and cry, I finally gave him solids at 4 and a half months, he had good head control so I sat him in his snug chair and fed him two spoonfuls of baby porridge.. He didnt push the spoon out so I knew he was ready and proceeded to give him the food and he eat all of it (I waited a full 24 hours before trying him again) and he gradually had more and more He was also breastfed and I know he was ready for solids when I gave him some.. He is now 6 months and eats porridge of a morning mashed with puréed banana, has puréed fruit of a dinner and some puréed veg of a night and he is a very content and happy baby and spot on in his weight! Mums know best, as long as baby has good head control and can eat off a spoon not in the bottle like rusk (don't do that!) it's fine! Good luck x

My daughter stopped eating foods for a while but she is still eating out of a bottle. She just started eating finger foods and certain table foods again. I want to say this started at about a yr old and she just truned 15 months. As long as he is not losing weight and is not sick then it could just be a phase.

It sounds like your baby knows what he wants. I'd stop wasting money on baby food, and let him eat soft table foods. Maybe he's going through a phase where he doesn't want to eat. My daughter does that right before she hits a big growth spurt. I wouldn't worry unless he starts losing weight.

We had a similar problem with my son. The pediatrician said if he would only eat grilled cheese then give him grilled cheese everytime (after trying something new). He said the important thing is that the child is eating.

Give him small pieces of whatever you're eating - as long as there's no nuts, honey, or shellfish. He may be catching on that what's on your plate is better than what he's getting. My friend's son, who's nine months old, is like that. If you give him baby food, he freaks out! Give him bites of your pizza or small bits of steak and some mashed potatoes and he's happier than a clam at high tide!

Don't sweat it!!! Babies eat when they are hungry! Promise!
He might be teething, or be having a reaction to something he ate..... or just NOT hungry
If this goes on for more then a few days take him in for a check up.... If you are nursing it might be a nursing strike....If so contact you local Le Leche League for help!
