HAHAHAHA!!! Oh goodness....I've just been through this. No, there is no specific time. It really depends on the courts, the two parties involved and how much "fighting" each party is willing to do, how much money you can dole out and how much dirt you can get on the other person to make them look incapable. It depends on the lawyer you get (I went to a lawyer who was giving me a "break" at a $1500 hold fee just for him to take my case...you get so many hours for that-ten or less-and after that you pay hourly, at least $200 an hour.) This is pretty much standard for a decent lawyer. Then depending on the case, there can be psychologists brought in for the child(ren) and parents, school teachers could be involved...oh it can be a mess. We've just come out on the other side of custody battles...and even when it's "over" and the papers are signed it's still NEVER over. Not until they're 18, and good luck at that.

I don't think that you can find an average cost because I am sure that custody battles very greatly as far as the cost is concerned. I can tell you from experience that 1. it will not be cheep and it is just what they say...a battle. Also Judges seldom will let a child be taken out of their primary state with out some serious evidence that the parent is unfit. That is the main question that you need to ask yourself, can I prove that the other parent is an unfit parent. It took my uncle 5 years to get custody of his little girl and her mother was busted trying to sneak drugs into her boyfriend in jail. She hid the drugs in the baby's diaper!!! She had also been arrested several times for doing and selling drugs and it still took my uncle 5 years to get custody with all that evidence. As you can imagine, the attorney's bills were not cheep.

It sounds to me like you both have a lot of pent up anger. First of all you husband is the person who should be there to protect and mind you not physically assault even if things were tough. To be honest I do not blame you for fighting back, you must be feeling so hurt right now that a person who is supposed to love and care for you can hurt and abuse you in this way. I believe words mean nothing unless actions follow after, I think you both need time to talk in a neutral and unbiased setting, counseling would probably be a good place to start if you want to continue with the relationship, because if you continue fighting this way you will only become more violent and saddened. I hope you can work it out, but just make sure to remember you deserve better than someone who is going to hurt you and make you feel guilty like this. try look at the situation from an outsiders point of view, if your friends husband was acting like this towards her what would you think? I hope everything works out and you can sort your issues!

If there is, you can be sure there are at least a couple of digits to the left of the comma.

Several thousands of dollars, and it could take a year or more.
