It seems reasonable to me to keep enemy combatants locked up for the duration of the conflict, however long it takes, so why do we have to have Quantanimo bay on one hand, with crazy treatment of inmates, and then a capture and release program in Iraq on the other?

What the hell happened to the old, effective way of doing things?

Why is the American involvement in the Laos not mentioned in American history textbooks. I mean weren't we at a undeclared war with the communists that took over that country after the Vietnam war ?

I would like to know why there are so many healthy americans that fully support fighting in iraq but won't actually enlist to go and fight the war that they believe in.I can understand if you cant join the military, like if you are to old,not old enoug, handicapped,or have some legal reasons why you cant join. But for everyone else that wanted this war and still support this war,Why wont you join and go fight.I joined before the war, i was fortunate enough to get sent into the war and see first hand whats going on over there,i fought even though i don't believe in this war.I support the troops but not the war.So basically how can you support the war so much and support sending more husbands, wives, sons, and daughters off to fight knowing that you would never fight.
This question is only directed towards those who are able to join and support the war but choose not to fight in the war that they support.

On October 14, 2001, a former Iraqi army captain named Sabah Khodada granted an interview to the PBS television program "Frontline" in which he talked about a terrorist training camp in Iraq called Salman Pak. During this interview Khodada stated, "This camp is specialized in exporting terrorism to the whole world."

Saddam Hussein paid $25,000 bonuses to the families of Palestinian homicide bombers. "President Saddam Hussein has recently told the head of the Palestinian political office, Faroq al-Kaddoumi, his decision to raise the sum granted to each family of the martyrs of the Palestinian uprising to $25,000 instead of $10,000," Iraq's deputy prime minister Tariq Aziz declared on March 11, 2002. Mahmoud Besharat, who dispensed these funds across the West Bank, gratefully said: "You would have to ask President Saddam why he is being so generous. But he is a revolutionary and he wants this distinguished struggle, the intifada, to continue."

Could someone tell me what the process is if I come up positive on a Navy conducted Urinalysis Test? How long will I be in restricted barracks, etc. I am currently an E-6 stationed in Bahrain with six years left on my contract and the only way I can get out of the military is by failing a drug test. Anyone know what the procession is to this and how long it would take to be Admin Separated? I own businesses that net 20k/monthly and other than trying to use the "convenience of the government" method of getting out, this seems to be the only fail proof option.

My friend is a doctor and got a direct commission in the military. He has been on active duty for a total of 3 months now. We were walking to our car in the parking lot at the commissary, and my friend was in uniform. An E7 and a E8 walked by us and didn't even salute him. They completely ignored him.

I know he is just a new Officer, but aren't Soldiers suppose to salute the rank, not the man? I don't see the big deal, why a Soldier doesn't want to lift their hand for 2 seconds and give the proper military courtesy.

My friend didn't care. He actually found it funny and laughed. But as for me, I didn't find it funny at all. He is a Captain and a doctor and deserves the proper respect!

Its a popular rock band! Its the red coats? No... No, its the British coming to invade Zimbabwe?

Zimbabwe's Military on "high alert":
http://uk.news.yahoo.com/afp/20071119/tuk-zimbabwe-britain-military-a7ad41d_1.html

Their Army:
http://uk.news.yahoo.com/afp/20071119/img/puk-zimbabwe-britain-milita-faf8b66c5c200.html

So apparently, according to some African man, the British are going to invade Zimbabwe and take back their African colonies, assasinate African leaders and give the farms back to white people.

What are your thoughts on this? Is Mugabe a madman, or is this the start of another Imperial era? Can Britain afford to get involved in another war?

I say YES, invade Zimbabwe.

So the US and the UK (soon-to-be "British Empire"?) are scheming against the poor Zimbabweans.
.....
Does anyone else find this hilarious?

I went to www.sss.gov and gathered that I have to register for the selective service first, then sss will send me a confirmation letter via mail, and then I can go through the CO process. However, the website appeared unprofessional and misleading. Any suggestions for interpreting an evil govt's policies?
