At present there is no draft. Draft means conscription... it means that if you don't enlist, the military will put you where it wants... historically, in the Army. But, again, at present there is no draft.
Even if there were, if you enlist, you cannot be drafted.
But, if you are asking whether or not you will be sent to fight in the war, I too hear that girls are not sent to the front lines.
That said, it doesn't mean you won't be sent to a hot spot. That's the nature of the game... it's in your job description.
If you go Navy, the chances of you seeing any kind of combat is slim to none. Most Navy shore duty is pretty removed from the fighting. Aboard ship... at sea... you're probably safer than you are at home.
There is an exception. I understand Hospital Corpsmen (female) can be assigned as medics to evacuation and extraction helicopters. Those operations can get a little.... exciting?
I can't state which service women like the best, but Navy women, in my experience, seem the least defeminized. But that's just my experience. The only time I could compare services was while in the D.C. area.

Drafted is when you are made to join regardless of whether you want to.
If you join the military you stand a very very good chance of going to war. That is what the military trains for, and does. Girls are going to Iraq and Afghanistan just like the guys.
As for which branch, I am partial to the Navy. If picking a second choice, I'd pick the Air Force.

If you go into the Army or Marines, there is a big chance you will get deployed overseas. Women, however would not be sent to the front lines to fight, you would most like be combat support. And there is no draft anymore. If you want to enlist somewhere, why not try the Coast Guard, they are the Department of Homeland Security, not the military. If you join the Navy, you could still go overseas but you might not be on the front lines, unlike the Marines or the Army.

There ARE women in Iraq/Afghanistan and they've been wounded, maimed (lost limbs) and killed. In this war there are no 'front lines' for the whole country is a battle field. This is particularly true for the Marines and Army. The Air Force isn't that involved on the ground, nor is the Navy or Coast Guard. Not everyone goes to Iraq or Afghanistan.
However, on October 12, 2000, The USS Cole DDG-67 was in a 'friendly' port and was attacked. Depending on what you read, between 33 and 39 sailors were wounded and 17 sailors were killed. Two of the killed were women; Lakeina Francis (a Navy cook seaman), and Lakiba Palmer (a non-designated seaman apprentice).
Military personnel are killed even on 'safe' bases around the world and here stateside. There is no guarantee ANYONE will not be injured or killed at anytime during their military service. We recently lost a local U.S. Marine in a vehicle accident in Iraq. It was not due to enemy action. I lost one of my sailors when she and another sailor were on their way to Nags Head, N.C. for the weekend. Her shipmate was injured so badly that when I went to visit her in the hospital, if I didn't know who she was I would not have recognized her.
You can be injured or killed as a civlilan just as easily as a military person.
But you can do worse things than joining any branch of the U.S. military, and I can't think of anything more honorable than becoming a member of the worlds greatest military.

Are you sure the military will take what with the brain damage and all?
There is no draft! One more time, THERE IS NO DRAFT!
If you join the military you may be deployed to a war zone. You will not be deployed until after you complete your training which could take six months to a year depending on what your job is going to be.
Each branch has its own certain charms, it depends on what you want to get out of your service. WOMEN do not get sent to frontline combat but they can get sent to units that may find themselves in the frontline.

The draft, if there were one, would be a way to get people into the military whether they wanted to join or not.
There is no draft.
There will be no draft.
If you join, there is no need to be drafted. It sounds like your question is actually if you join would you have to deploy to a war zone. The answer is that we are at war, and that means it's entirely likely.

If you volunteer for the military it is currently highly likely that you will be deployed to a war zone. If you do not want that then do not volunteer. Being drafted is completely different. We do not have a draft in the US.

Being "Drafted" means being pulled into the military without volunteering. If you sign up, you can't be drafted.
If you don't want to be involved in military conflict (war) then the military may not be the best place for you.

No one gets "drafted" to war. Women are forbidden from being assigned to combat arms in the military by Federal law.
And there are no "girls" in the military. Just mature women who do their duty, day in and day out, with a sense of purpose and orientation to their world.
I would suggest you contact the nearest reserve unit and see if you can make contact with some woman who is currently in uniform. Not a recruiter/. Just someone who has "been there and done that" and can give you some solid advice.
