I would like to know why there are so many healthy americans that fully support fighting in iraq but won't actually enlist to go and fight the war that they believe in.I can understand if you cant join the military, like if you are to old,not old enoug, handicapped,or have some legal reasons why you cant join. But for everyone else that wanted this war and still support this war,Why wont you join and go fight.I joined before the war, i was fortunate enough to get sent into the war and see first hand whats going on over there,i fought even though i don't believe in this war.I support the troops but not the war.So basically how can you support the war so much and support sending more husbands, wives, sons, and daughters off to fight knowing that you would never fight.
This question is only directed towards those who are able to join and support the war but choose not to fight in the war that they support.

mp us-you make a good point.but it seems like what you are saying is that you want all these things like a garbage man and fire dept but you feel that you shouldn't have to actually do any of these things

i guess some are still not understanding this.My point here is why would you support and want people to go to some other country and fight, and possibly die when you yourself are unwilling to do the same.I think there is a difference between supporting the troops and supporting the war.To me supporting the troops mean that you support what is best for the troops, supporting the war means to me that you believe those troops should be over their fighting.so if you support the troops thats fine but if you support the war but won't participate thats what i have a problem with. Those are the people i'm talking about here.

First, I don't think anybody actually wants war. But one goes to the doctor to get a cancer removed from ones body. Just so, one may to resort to major surgery to rid the world of a cancer.

Second I too would like to know why people "support the war" from their easy chairs and SUVs and refuse to join. It bugs the heck out of me when I see a gas-guzzling SUV or pickup made in Japan or Korea, or some other country flying an American Flag and sporting one of those magnetic "Support our troops" decals. It angers me what people think they can trash the mission calling it immoral, illegal, ill advised; or the troops' command structure calling it criminal, incompetent, or crazy; ot the troops themselves claiming they're murderers of women and children, rapists, torturers, losers... and still claim they're "supporting the troops but not the war."

And, for the record, when OIF started, I offered my services. I'm in pretty good shape. I run 2-3 miles 3 times a week, do weights 3 days a week, swim 2-3 miles a day, Karate 3 days a week and Kali 2. But I have this problem with my birth certificate... it says I'm too old. I told them maybe I'm not a spry as I once was, but I might get in the way of a bullet meant for some younger guy. I retired a little more than 20 years ago after 25 in the Navy. I was in Vietnam, and a few other places around the world.... but... 60 (back then) was too old.

One poster suggested that he felt he'd make a poor soldier. Due respects, but I've heard them all. I'm afraid to die. I couldn't kill another human. It's against my religion. My grandfather served... I shouldn't have to. Ok, too old... I'm stuck there too. But the rest... bull stuff. If you're afraid to die, 5 times as many die each year in hospitals due to careless, inept, or incompetent doctors than servicemen killed in the Middle East since OIF began. More die over a 3-day weekend on the freeways than die in an average week in Iraq. If you can't see yourself taking a life... then become a medic and save them. If it's truly against your religion, then join the Peace Corps. But the lowest, the most inane excuse is that somebody else paid the bill for you. You go to MacDonald's and get a hamburger. You pay for it right? Hundreds each day probably get the same thing. Don't you think the place has made enough profit that they can give you yours for free? Or is it that a hamburger is more important to you than the freedoms you have and so often seem to abuse? Don't think you could hack the military? You'll never know unless you try... will you?

Politicians know the way to hold a battle going. General know the way to finish one. Take this battle out of the palms of the Politicians positioned it within the palms of the Generals and this battle can be over in a while. If it had now not been for Eisenhower and MacArthur we could nonetheless be combating WW II. Having a Commander and Chief that has no army revel in throughout a battle is like having a pee wee soccer league quarter again within the Super Bowl. Proof of that is by means of watching on the reward commander and leader and notice the mess he has gotten us into and what LBJ did in Vietnam.

I didn't support the decision to go to war, but now that we're there, losing/withdrawing is the worst case scenario.
Even if I wasn't to old to enlist, I would frankly make a poor soldier, & as a result would be more likely to get myself or someone else killed that be an effective member of a service.

I think to believe your statement you would have to also believe that everyone who opposes the war should join Al-Qaeda.

Everyone has their station in life. That's why people pay taxes, so they don't have to do everything.

I don't want to be a garbage man but I want my trash picked up.

I don't want to put out Fires but I want there to be a fire department.

I happen to be a Soldier but if I were not I would still support the war and If I didn't want to go I wouldn't.

I'm glad we have that freedom

I believe in supporting the troops would be a more apropriate way of looking at it, and in turn one supports the war. I support a lot of groups, even though I am not part of them.

I am "able" to join, but have chosen to serve by being a military wife - the military isn't for everyone, nor is being a spouse of a soldier, but I do what I can.

I've been in the Army for five years. I don't support any war, but fully support victory in any war we as a nation enter. I personally don't feel WW2 was necessary, but Adolf Hitler and Emperor Hirohito felt differently.
