My husband is in the Army right now and deploying to Afghanastan. While he is over there he plans on re-enlisting, but he also told me about the National Guard full time. He said it is very rare for them to deploy, and you basically stay in the same spot the whole time you are in. But the down side is it's hard to get into a spot, and it's hard to make rank. Does anyone know about how to get into this, if it's true about not deploying much, what about rank.
Also I am worried about the rank, he went from E1 to E5 in 2 1/2 years, and most hopefully will make E6 once he hits his four year mark. I am worried about him still being able to make rank, because this is very important to him ad he works hard for it, I don't want him to re-enlist for something like this and be miserable.
Is there any other options to stay at the same base the whole time, other than civilian. Can you still retire after 20 years?
As much information you know about thi would be a great help, thank you!
