Because of college credit, the recruiter told me I'd be joining the Air Force as an E-3. When will I officially be an E-3?? During Basic (for pay at least)?? Right after Basic?? After Tech School?? How long on average does it take to move from E-3, to E-4, to E-5??

Hi, I am fourteen years old and I am intrested in going to the Naval Academy. I play varsity lacrosse, am in the Civil Air Patrol, Have over a 5.0 GPA ( my highschool offers 6.0 for all PAP classes), am in the Student Council, a volunteer program, and I am in very good shape. I want to go to the academy more than anything else. Other than what I just said about myself, is there anything else that I could do to improve my chances of getting an appointment?

Any information is greatly appreciated.

without supporting the war? Why or why not?

600 billion borrowed dollars a year for decades and our military can't subdue a few thousand guys in bathrobes and shower shoes. This needs some explaining. The Bush Junta doesn't want to talk about it, and in fear of being accused of being 'soft' on terrorism or accused of not 'supporting the troops' nobody else wants to bring up the subject either. Since I'm the town scold I'll bring it up. We borrow tons of money, give it to the military on a silver platter and nothing happens....except we have to borrow more money the next year for the same sub-par performance. Attack me and wave the flag all you want, but at least try to explain the unexplainable!

Okay since the dawn of time war has been expensive. But whyin the world did it ever get to this kind of magnitude. Why do we build a aircraft carrier for 4 or 5 BILLION, that costs millions a day to operate, stack it up with 30? aircraft that cost 50? million dollars a piece and cost 40k a hr to operate. Then we drop 900k bombs on a 1986 toyotoa pickup with 3 arab guys in the back carrying ak47's...

Does anyone out there believe that we have priced our selfs out of fighting wars?

The cold war is over, Germany is reunified...(maybe the soldiers like it there, who wouldn't like being paid to do practically nothing, but I dont think its the case)...

Except for ballistic missles, I think the German Defense Forces can handle themselves well if some rogue in eastern europe tries something.

So y are we still in germany?

My wife is looking at possible back surgery, and just had a biopsy where they found cancerous cells, more testing is needed, but with two young children, making it to appointments is all but impossible for her. I want to go home and take care of my family because our rear detachment is lousy at taking care of familes, which happens to be their main mission while troops are downrange so we can perfom our missions without worry. I am worried for my wife, she cries on the phone because she is torn between our two children, and her own health. Any suggestions to make my chain of command realize that if our rear D doesn't want to help out my wife, that I need to go home so I can????

My husband is in the Army right now and deploying to Afghanastan. While he is over there he plans on re-enlisting, but he also told me about the National Guard full time. He said it is very rare for them to deploy, and you basically stay in the same spot the whole time you are in. But the down side is it's hard to get into a spot, and it's hard to make rank. Does anyone know about how to get into this, if it's true about not deploying much, what about rank.
Also I am worried about the rank, he went from E1 to E5 in 2 1/2 years, and most hopefully will make E6 once he hits his four year mark. I am worried about him still being able to make rank, because this is very important to him ad he works hard for it, I don't want him to re-enlist for something like this and be miserable.
Is there any other options to stay at the same base the whole time, other than civilian. Can you still retire after 20 years?
As much information you know about thi would be a great help, thank you!
