I've met some pretty highly skilled people who are recruiters, and it seems like it would be a waste just having them behind a desk unless an injury is keeping them out of their field. It doesn't seem like a job people would want to volunteer for, to me. No offense to any recruiters here. I know you guys do a hell of a lot of work.

I've decided that the military is where my heart lies, and although I'm not sure I could cut it physically, I want to be a part of the daily operations of it.

I'm educated, I have a Bachelors of Fine Arts (BFA) in Entertainment Design and Technology. I've done large event planning and many broadway shows...

It's become clear that supporting the military is the correct career path I should be following.

What careers as a civilian can I get?

Tanks. I'm hearing about tanks. You are in a tank for extended periods of time, in battle, under siege. You can't pull the tank over every 5 minutes for a potty break. So do women belong in tanks? Would a tank troop staffed entirely by females be a good idea? Would they bring other issues into where they directed their fire power? I've heard many professional tank crews comment how close the quarters are inside a tank, and that hygiene is actually an issue that impacts performance in the field...i.e., you gotta be able to hold it sometimes for long periods. Also, should tanks have separate facilities for both men and women? How far do we have to go to accomodate two sexes in the same military? Or should we just have troops that are of one sex or the other, but not both? If you were the head of Al Qaeda, would you be more vehement to absolutely defeat America with as many suicide bombers you could generate, if it's leader were a woman like Hillary? Or are they gender blind?

a) once "the surge" is over that things will go back to the way they were
b) "the surge" will only work as long as we commit almost our entire military to Iraq
c) Iraqis know that the days of the "blank check" are coming to and end and that they'd better quit being lazy and start doing things for themselves
d) that even though things are getting "better" America has lost more troops this year in Iraq than ever before

My husband is depressed on the ship, unable to do his job to his best capabilities, is stressed beyond belief and even loses sleep at night. He has a lot of problems to deal with outside of the military and those problems are effecting his performance on the ship and making his life miserable. He knows of a discharge he could persue but he would rather stay in and finish out his enlistment (about 3 more years) instead of breaking his obligation to the Navy. He wants to switch from sea to shore duty but I'm sure that that is easier said then done because if it was easy everyone would want to do it. He knows of a few individuals who have successfully switched but his command says its not possible. He is willing to switch jobs and move wherever is needed. Does anyone have any advice on how he could go about trying to switch from sea to shore duty?

Will a recruited marine in training in being a naval technician or any non-war field work still fight a war?

I have two friends who joined the marine's, and they'll be going to Boot Camp on the 14th of July next year.

And since I'm one who worries for my friends well beings, will they be sent to battle if the war is still on or if any other war begins even if they reassure me that'll they be a technician and such and won't see any bullets or fighting whatsoever?

This may be a unique question but hoping someone out there has had a similar situation. Our son is in Navy bootcamp. His division will graduate on Dec. 21st. We are hoping he will get to come home for Christmas. Does anyone know if he might come home or will the Navy send him right on to his next school? Because of the time frame, if he did get to come home for Christmas, would he go to his next school for just the couple of days between Dec 21st graduation and Christmas? I am hoping someone out there has graduated on previous years around Christmas! We are anxious to find out if we have our son for Christmas or not! Thanks for your answers!

When I was taking the ASVAB last week the man conducting the test could not stress enough the importance of getting a degree, "even if you are in downtown Baghdad or Fallujah". I scored an 81 on the ASVAB and I'm trying to join the Infantry and go to Airborne schoo. I already went to MEPS last Wednesday and passed the physical, being "disgustingly healthy" as the good doctor put it, and I am just waiting for my waiver to be approved. I am not stupid by any means, Infantry is just what I want to do. I have 13 college credits already and people I've talked to have made it sound like I can only go to school after my time is up, but I've also seen others say to the contrary. Will I have time or opportunity to use online courses or whatever if/when I am deployed?
