Will a recruited marine in training in being a naval technician or any non-war field work still fight a war?

I have two friends who joined the marine's, and they'll be going to Boot Camp on the 14th of July next year.

And since I'm one who worries for my friends well beings, will they be sent to battle if the war is still on or if any other war begins even if they reassure me that'll they be a technician and such and won't see any bullets or fighting whatsoever?

yes now and forever till you are free. I am in a non combat MOS in the Army and if they need you, you will fight. That what basic is for is to teach you to fight. Having a non-combat job helps a lot you will not see it much or even if you are lucky.

Every Marine is a rifleman. That is true from the lowliest private all the way up the chain of command to the Commandant of Marines. Ergo, there are no non-war field work assignments in the Corps.
The Global War on Terrorism will be going on for many years into the future.

If the job they select is an infantry-based or directly related to combat operations, they are more likely to see actual combat than those with technical jobs. Those with technical jobs don't knock on doors with guns in their hands or patrol streets. They are trained, at the expense of the Marine Corps, to do their technical work in support of the war effort. Even when they deploy, they will be doing exactly what they've been trained to do for the Corps.

My son is an Aviation Electronics Technician. He spent his 7-month deployment on a gigantic air base in the middle of the desert in the middle of nowhere... no villages around, even. He got word, at one point, that a mortar shell had come over the fence... once. That that was a close to "action" as he got.

Your friends don't need you to worry about them. They need you to be proud of them, to support them, to write to them during boot camp and stay in touch with them afterwards, during their training, their deployments, and the years they'll be stationed away from home.

EVERY Marine is trained for combat. That's what Marines do, even if they are COOKS.
Be PROUD of your Marine (always captialized) friend.

Oh, and a FUNNY (and informative) site for Marines:

my guess is if they are not infantry then being sent to war pobally won't happen. They could be sent to an area where fighting might go on within a couple miles of them but as far as actually going into combat the only way that would happen is if their base is attacked or a convoy ambush. If they are in a support position then thats what they will do they will support the people that are doing the actual fighting.

In 1968, I was a welding instructor in the Army - in 1969, I was in Danang, South Viet Nam - and I wasn't teaching anymore.
I wish your friends the best, but I would not count on any MOS keeping them out of harms way during a war or conflict.

A Marine is a Marine...they will not be a Navy technician. Depending on their MOS (job) whether they 'go to war'. If they signed up for open-contract, then they will go 0311 rifleman and will be going to Iraq.

The Marine Corps philosophy is that every Marine is a Rifleman first. Chances are with todays warfare that even individuals in rear areas are subject to fire fights. Wishful thinking on their part I think.....or tey are just trying to ease your mind.

Any one who joins the military(any branch) has the chance of being sent to war. Your friends are fooling themselves if they think they won't.
