He may or may not have the opportunity to take leave. That is going to depend on the command policies of the training unit he is in. He can't be compelled to take leave, but he may not be given the opportunity. In general, if he does not take leave (if offered) he would be shipped to his AIT training base and perform "casual duty" while waiting for his class to start. If AIT is on the same base, he would probably go to the new unit and do a "zero week."

Depending how long his bootcamp is, he will build up a certain amount of leave(2.5 days a month). He can take the leave after bootcamp if he wants to. After Marine Corps bootcamp, I took a week leave, then had 15 days recruiter's assistance. After that I went back to Camp Pendleton for two weeks of MCT(Marine Combat Training).

I assume you're talking about Army. Assuming such, he doesn't get a week off between basic and AIT. He might graduate BCT a week before his AIT start date, but he'll get to spend that week at his AIT post on casual status.
He should get either ten or fourteen days of leave after AIT, depending on his first assignment being CONUS or OCONUS.

Generally only the Marines give recruits leave right after Basic/Boot.
The other services go straight to AIT/Tech School.
Then are granted leave before going to thier first permanent duty assignment.

That's up to him I think innit?
I would guess it would depend on his MOS. I'm about to leave for Ft Benning where basic and my a.i.t. are all in the same place. Basic/AIT/Airborne

not necessarily. he may be required to go immediately to his school location even if school is not scheduled to begin right away. he will still have to inprocess there. even if he does, it will be completely out of pocket and he will use up leave.. leave he hasn't earned yet.
