This may be a unique question but hoping someone out there has had a similar situation. Our son is in Navy bootcamp. His division will graduate on Dec. 21st. We are hoping he will get to come home for Christmas. Does anyone know if he might come home or will the Navy send him right on to his next school? Because of the time frame, if he did get to come home for Christmas, would he go to his next school for just the couple of days between Dec 21st graduation and Christmas? I am hoping someone out there has graduated on previous years around Christmas! We are anxious to find out if we have our son for Christmas or not! Thanks for your answers!

More than likely they will allow him to come home. "A" schools usually have start dates that fall after the holidays. However, one thing to remember is he will not have much leave on the books. After basic, you have only earned 5 days of leave.(2.5 days per month). It is never a good thing to go in the negative on your leave balance. Additionally, he may be sent to his next station even though there may not be any classes, he would have to reort for duty and they would probably put him to work doing odd jobs like cleaning, standing watches etc. He needs to find out from his company commanders and get back to you. You could also try contacting the base chaplains office to see if they might be able to point you in the right direction. Good Luck!

The best person to ask this question is your son. Each graduating class is different, some ship to 'A' school immediately and some have the weekend off. When I graduated I didn't actaully leave RTC for a whole week. In this case they would most likely let him take leave. Your son will know what the plans are for his division. Hopefully you can have him back for Christmas but you should also prepare for the scenario that has him going to 'A' school immediately. Best of luck.

all A schools shut down for the two weeks between Christmas and New year's. that being said, if he comes home it will be out of pocket, and they will only pay to fly him from RTC to his A school location.

he will have to find out what they are planning on doing..sending them directly to A school and then he can make arrangements from there to come , or if they will let him leave first and then return to RTC to be sent to A school.

and there is ALWAYS the possiblilty that he will NOT be allowed to take leave at all, although I really think that is highly unlikely.

traditionally there is a leave after completion of basic training.......If there are open billets in A school that need to be filled, He may be transferred directly to A school with out leave.....not very often does this happen though.
