Generally speaking, if I'm going to miss a deadline, I tell my boss before hand. He then either extends the deadline or throws more assets at the problem to meet the deadline.

we locked out of a sub to do a beach recon. When we got to the beach, all the guys pulled civvies out of their war bag. I didn't cause I was new. They went into town and partied, I had to stay and watch the gear. They came back drunk. We were several hours late and missed our pick up
Nothing really happened, but the old man was pissed and I was the blunt of many jokes.
And they didn't even bring me a drink Go figure.

I missed out on credit for a class assignment which brought my grade down from an A to a B-
