My husband has been at his curent job almost 3 years and has made no secret of wanting to join the military. He has let them know that he will be leaving in January for basic training and they are threatening to not hold his job for him and ask him to resign his position. They also will not let him apply for a promotion. We are under the impression from the Service and Sailors Act that this is illegal. Is that accurate? Can anyone help us?!?

My friend has been in JROTC for all of high school. This year he is a senior. He's been in the Boy Scouts since elementary school, he made Eagle Scout back in September. He turns 18 in April.
He wants to join the army. He's been told because of his activities, he will attain the rank of PFC (E-3) right out of boot camp. Normally one has to be in 6-12 months with at least 2-4 months as Private (E-2) before eligible for promotion.
They also told him most E-4's were Specialists and not Corporals, but most people with his type of experience make Corporal, not Specialist within a year's service.
Seems a lot of average recruits will not make PFC until their rank automatically increases.
He sees this as a fast track to leadership in the Army. I tell him it was all an interesting experience, but he doesn't have to join the Army, and none of these promotions seem to be guaranteed. If you had this experience, did it help you? Thanks.

I have been asking around some of my guy friends and sadly, they said if they had the opportunity to go out there into the world without their wives or girlfriend, they would definitely cheat. My husband wants me to go to Korea with him but the paperwork is taking so long. Should I go to Korea to be with my husband or should I stay here and go to college?

Does anyone know a bit about command sponsorship in Europe?

My husband and I recently got married and we both live in Europe. He is assigned here with the US Army and I am a canadian civilian working on the same base.

We recently moved into our new house but we are having a hell of a time getting our OHA and COLA taken care of. Everything else is in order (dependants ID, TriCare...) but getting command sponsorship is looking like an obstacle course all in itself.

Does anyone know how long it should take to get all the paperwork done and over with? Since we are both already here and not waiting for housing, shouldnt it be a matter of days and not a matter of weeks???

I'm currently studying in UC Berkeley right now, but I really need some money for me to continue my study and living. I talked to a Navy officer last week, and he told me that if I join the Navy reserve, I will have 20,000 rewards, and 10,000 scholarship, plus I will work 2 days a month, and get 500 pay for that. The only thing I need to do is just to enter a 5-6 month's boot camp. After that I will only work 2 days a month. Also, he told me that Navy reserve never goes to war, unlike marine, af, army. I was really moved, could anyone tell me whether it is that good as he told me??

- Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki met Sunday with the top U.S. military commander in Iraq to voice his outrage over the reported deaths of Iraqi civilians during a Sunday morning military raid in Baghdad's Sadr City, a government spokesman told CNN.

Iraqis grieve the death of many relatives killed during fights between U.S. troops and militants.

Al-Maliki expressed his concerns to Gen. David Petraeus over Iraqi reports that 10 to 15 civilians were killed in the raid, spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh told CNN's "Late Edition."

The U.S. military said its ground forces are "aware" of civilian deaths in the early morning raid that it said left 49 "criminals" dead.

"There is a great tension in the Iraqi government" over the incident, al-Dabbagh said. the question is "Will the people in the USA care enough to stop the killings".

Germans have been naming their armored fighting vehicles after big cats ever since the Pzkpfw V Tiger, right up to the modern Leopard. I don't think it's a mystery as to why, but I wonder whose idea this was.

My husband has been deployed for 4 months now. This is our first deployment. I find myself gettind more and more short tempered with my children that I am with almost 24/7. They are out of sorts because their dad is gone and are acting out (they are 4 & 6). No one knows the extent of my situation. Not my friends or anyone in the neighborhood. My mother in law is no help and actually contributes to my stress. I'm at the end of my rope! I also have an 18 year old who is on my last nerve and thinks the world should revolve around HIM and I should do everything for him and give him everything because he just got "clean" and is "fragile". He uses this as an excuse when I tell him to get a job, clean his room or not talk to me the way he does. Any stress relievers out there that have worked? NO ONE is willing or has the time to even watch my kids overnight so I can have a day to myself. BTW, I also have a part-time job! HELP!!!!

I'm currently a high school senior, and have made up my mind I want to become a helicopter pilot. I have no pilot contacts, becoming a civilian pilot right after high school is too $. So joining the military seems like a great idea. Unless I'm wrong one has to be an officer in all the branches to fly. I'd rather attend college and become an officer rather than start out enlisted. So my options have been narrowed down to the Air Force Academy or attending a college with an ROTC.
My questions...

Can I get into the Academy? And is it too focused on fixed wing aircraft? My G.PA. is around a 3.6, I'm no superstar, and one has to contact a U.S. senator. So it doesn't look too good.

Which ROTC branch is best? I'm fine with a combat role. Serving in the middle of the ocean is fine. I'd love to travel. I'd be willing to fly anything but a Chinook. I'm working into getting into shape but the Marines might be too hard. I have little knowledge of the Coast Guard. Any suggestions? Thanks.
