Does anyone know a bit about command sponsorship in Europe?

My husband and I recently got married and we both live in Europe. He is assigned here with the US Army and I am a canadian civilian working on the same base.

We recently moved into our new house but we are having a hell of a time getting our OHA and COLA taken care of. Everything else is in order (dependants ID, TriCare...) but getting command sponsorship is looking like an obstacle course all in itself.

Does anyone know how long it should take to get all the paperwork done and over with? Since we are both already here and not waiting for housing, shouldnt it be a matter of days and not a matter of weeks???

Since my husband came here as a single soldier, if I don't get command sponsored he will not recieve OHA or COLA as "married with dependants". He will stay as a single soldier when it comes to Finance's side of the deal, which means our rent will be 100% out of our pockets.

They MADE him clear the barracks in 3 days after we were married, shouldnt they have to pay for his living arrangements (even if not at a married "rate")?

As soon as i got married (the same Day i took all my document to S-1 and summited for Comand Sponsorship. There were a few requirements we still had to get like a physical and shots. but other then that because she lived with me overseas it only took 3 weeks. Just like anything else in the army it depends how long it sits on someones desk. The Command Sponsership easy, peice of cake. Cola on the other hand took 2 years and when they finnally were going to appove it they told me it must have a letter of lateness even thought it was there fault they kept losing the paperwork. I hope they process it quickly for you!! Good luck with it!!

I am not a married soldier, but I can tell you what I know. Even though you both are here in Europe, the command is suppossed to sponsor you! When they do this, your husband then goes to the housing office. From there they can tell him if they will either give him BAH or if they will give him an apartment in housing on post. Either way, they have to work with you! And if they are not, then I would ask that you go to the source and find out why they are making things so difficult. i.e. - his command. If they are still not willing to help, to easy!!! Go to IG and file a complaint. :) Have fun, and god luck! Congrats on getting married too! I'm actually planning on doing it this December!

CS is a paperwork NIGHTMARE, and yes it can take six months, even if you are already there. It's just a fact of life. CS is often directly dependent on the command's budget..only X number of dollars is set aside each year to support Family members, and if that money is already spent/earmarked, you will have to wait.

ANYTHING paperwork related takes weeks and/or months. not just CS. have you completed an Overseas screening yet? dumb, I know, but even if you are already there you have to do it.

If you are already in country, why would you need Command Sponsorship?
