Here's my situation. I am 31 years old. I enlisted in the US Army when I was 18. I got through boot camp and did about two weeks of AIT. I then made the most aggregious decision of my life and went AWOL. As a stupid 18yr old, I decided the Army wasn't for me. Well, bad decision. Needless to say, I was discharged. My discharge was something like "Medical in lieu of Court Martial" and I believe it is under a "General" discharge. I want to join the Navy Reserve. I want to right the wrong I made as a stupid young man. The Navy Recruiter I have been talking with called me today and said "bad news".

Well, I have done some research and have found that waivers can be applied to individuals on a case by case basis. Since this was 12 years ago, is there ANY way possible for me to go in front of either the Discharge Review Board or a high ranking officer in the Navy to request a waiver to reenlist?

Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated! I want to serve.

If someone was in the Army 12 years ago and has an RE code of 3, (medical discharge in lieu of court martial) what does that mean if this person wants to now join the Navy reserves?

No, it's not yet about Iraq. This is about previous wars, Civil War especially:

Jefferson Davis and the Confederate generals were some of the most brilliant military minds of the era. Davis knew that the Confederacy had about a year to sue for peace with the Union or perhaps the Union might quit because of expense in material and lives. About a year after the war began, the Union had halted mosh ships with cargos to the South, and mor importantly had stopped the shipments of cotton to Europe, destroying the economy and finance for war. Union gunboats controlled the Ohio, Missippi and a number of other navigatable rivers. Union also took control of most railroads and transported artillery, troops and horses rapidly to combat. For the South the war was unwinnable 12 to 18 months after it began. And the Union manufactured more and newer weapons. Grant later commented that for every Union soldier killed, 3 more were in training or ready to join.

We live in Cleveland, Ohio and as far as I know Wright-Patterson is the closest base. I was thinking of going down there to do some Christmas shopping but since it's 3 hours away I'd rather not waste my time if it is not a good exchange. Could someone let me know?! Thank you so much.

Bring our troops home and prosecute the private contractors for ripping you and me off of trillions of dollars. This war is a farce and so is King George and his side kick in crime Cheney.

My husband and I just got married 7 months ago, he go out the navy last year because they where sending him far away for 3 yrs, and we where still in a strong relationship. We love each other , and we are plannig to have babies in a short term. My family is in San Diego, and we are right now in Miami orders, they end in 5 months, my question is, we want a good life, a estable job for the family, I have a degree too so I can follow him where ever he goes, what chances are that if gets orders back, he will be away from me? We want our life in San Diego, but we both know its difficul, but how difficult this is? my dream is going back to San Diego , and see him happy in the military , but i know this is hard, we are working to get his bachelors so he can turn officer in 1 yr, he is e4, What choices are out there? is there something in San Diego that he can work on ? How the orders look like going back ? Will they give him bad orders? Can we stay togheter most of the time? :(

Okay, my cousin is in the Air Force and he was ragging on me because of my great interest in the US Navy. He was acting as if the US Air Force was all high and mighty compared to the US Navy and other branches! He said don't go unless you want to be raped in the showers and hit on by gay sailors. He said you are going to be stranded out at sea in the middle of nowhere with nothing to do for nine months at a time. To him, the US Navy is a boring, pointless branch filled with flaming homosexuals!!! He also said get prepared to get hazed and thrashed by many US Marines on a daily basis!!! Damn...all of this makes me want to reconsider...
