Actually military glass's aren't ugly anymore.

They now offer like 9 different types of frames.

And nothing prevents you from buying whatever kind of glass's you want to buy , on your own.

You can wear contact lenses so long as you are not in the field. So a simple explanation... if you are not deployed or if you are not training out in the woods with a tent, yes you may wear contacts.

However it should be noted that when deployed you can wear prescription lenses for your protective eyewear that is required anyways.

Yes you can wear contacts in the military. The only time you can't is when your in Basic Training. That's when you get you BC Glasses. The rest of the time you need to have a pair of glasses close by in case something happens to your contacts. When I was in Iraq I wore contacts the whole time I was there, and always kept a pair of glasses with my combat load. Also forgot that when doing gasmask training you don't want to wear them, use your gasmask inserts. Hope this helps.

As stated before yes but not in boot camp or when you are in combat. The reason for this is risk of infection. Your not always going to have time to clean your contacts when you are overseas. When I was in the military I just wore my Birth Control Glasses (BCG's) when I went overseas due to the fact that they told me I couldn't wear my contacts over there. You can bring your own glasses though if you want but personally I didn't give a crud what people thought about me when I was over there. Good Luck. Yes the glasses they issue you are ugly as heck.

Wore 'em in basic at Benning, and for years in the desert. Contact lens wear in Georgia is nice due to the humidity, and the minimal dust. The desert is a pain once in awhile (bring a small spray bottle of h2o to help moisturize your eyes when waking up) but have good goggles and you're fine. Drill sgts never asked why I was wearing coke bottle glasses one day, then nothing the next.

Was awhile back though, maybe they're stricter now.

you can but you have to have backup glasses available and you cannot wear contacts during training and combat. During those times you are required to wear military issued glasses. They are safer and more durable than civilian glasses. Don't even get me started on the hazards of contacts during battle or national disaster scenarios. Because everyone else that wears glasses will be wearing them fashion will not be an issue and no one will really care. Military glasses are not the most attractive things but they've gotten better over the years.

Hon, sure you can, I did and yes the eye glasses that the Army issues you are ugly, but I strongly advise you to take a pair. You never know when you are going to need them. Lose a contact and in combat you cannot bend down and pick it up and pop it in your eye and you cannot get up in the middle of the night and pop them in while in the midst of a firefight, you'll need glasses to see who you are firing at. Wouldn't want to shoot Johnny GI or even Janey GI because the glasses make you look ugly!
