There are two possible ways to approach your question: The initial reason we entered, and the reason we are still there. I will approach why we are still there.
If we were to leave, we would, for the second time in recent history, abandon the Iraqi people. The first time we left them sparked much of the hatred from the initial insurgents. If we were to leave, many innocent Iraqis would die, and many of those unfortunate enough to still have to face life in Iraq would live in constant terror.
Case in Point: Ramadi. With the exception of Fallujah when it was still under enemy control, Ramadi is considered to have been the largest Al-Qaeda stronghold in Iraq. Actually Al-Qaeda officially recognizes Ramadi as its capitol in the entire region.
Several months back, the people in Ramadi welcomed Al-Qaeda with open arms in hopes that they would in turn help to drive out the Americans. The plan backfired. Al-Qaeda confiscated homes and killed countless innocent people while using the civilians as human shields so missile strikes could not be used against them. Finally after a prominant shiekh was killed by Al-Qaeda, the people of Ramadi declared Jihad... against Al-Qaeda!! Shortly after, the muslim clerics with influence actually asked the United States army to occupy the city and help them!
Today Al-Qaeda is driven out of Ramadi, and the population there is very violently supportive of the American Military. The 3rd Infantry Division soldiers there actually consider it to be the safest place in Iraq, and they are even confident to not always wear body armor, in this, the same town that is the capitol of Al-Qaeda.
Now suppose we suddenly pulled out... what would happen to Ramadi?
It would be defensless.
Al-Qaeda would jump at the chance to regain its capitol, and as it has proven to do time after time again, would severely punish the city for siding with the Americans.
It is examples like Ramadi that remind us why we are still in Iraq... because the media does not fully represent; they represent what they think makes a good story, turning the focus on all of the negative details.

Everyone says we are there because Bush and his friends want to get rice from the oil....this logic is crazy. Now if I owned oil wells here in the USA....why would I want oil coming in from anywhere else. Supply and demand are what set the price. If we don't get oil from overseas...that would make the oil here about $200 a barrel...and make Bush and his friends really RICH !!!!
My belief is we are there fighting the terrorist in a place that will not destroy our homes here in the USA. Doesn't it make sense to fight somewhere else besides our own back yard???
Frankly I wish we could bring them all home tomorrow and make a mile area around the entire border ( both north and south ) a military base. Put signs that anyone entering will be shot on sight for trespassing onto military base. It wouldn't take long to stop all illegals entering...them deportation could be increased...and we would get control back of this great country.
Oh yes...any illegal caught here in USA would be placed on chain gang and given trash bags and lawn mowers and told to pick up trash and mower the highways all the way back to Mexico. Food would be beans, tortilla and water only

Saddam Hussein had a plot to kill, President George W. Bush's father when he was president when he visited Egypt, but it was uncovered! Our current president made a promise to his father, if I am ever elected President of the U.S., I will personally make sure Saddam Hussein is toppled from his dictatorship in Iraq, no matter what I must say or do to convince the American people we must invade Iraq. He did just this and the rest is history! The war against terrorism was not in Iraq....but the U.S. president said it was because they possessed weapons of mass destruction and were gonna use then against the U.S. and and it's allies! Truth was, there were no weapon's, they had been destroyed during the Gulf War during George W. Bush's fathers presidency!

originally,i feel it was to get saddam out, so that we can get inside of iran, but,it was never declared,so,i think we are hanging around and waiting on our new ally in turkey to go in first and this way, every terrorist in the world will find a way to iran to fight it out to the death
