I heard that the USAF doesnt care what field you major in at college. Is this true? All my life becoming a pilot is what I have wanted to do, however, I am not good at math so I most likely would not major in anything that involves math (engineering, physics, etc.)

I watched the original star wars movie last night. Like many movies made before 2001, they sure don't make movies like that anymore.

The opening scene is Princess Leia on an espionage mission wearing civilian clothing, fires on uniformed soldiers, then spends the rest of the movie claiming to be a peaceful diplomat inbetween shooting at people.

This was enthusiastically received by Ronald Reagan who used the movie to illustrate America's foreign policy in his "Evil Empire" speech. He sure didn't have a problem with religeous devotees sneaking around blowing suff up getting recognised as heros.

I was watching a WWII documentary on the History Channel regarding Midway and it showed a flag that looked like the English flag (White flag with two red lines crossing one another) on one of the Japanese flag ships. Is this some type of naval insignia or a signal flag of some sorts?

I need help here .. soldiers have always gone to war to protect their civilian countries. The cost of war is people dying. Usually civilians, who have had absolutely no choice. (as in the thousands dying in present wars in which the West is involved).

Why is it such a shock to the press & to individuals when one or two soldiers are killed in Afghanistan or Iraq? it is surely part of the job, & they are aware of the dangers when they willingly sign up. Neither the U.S. nor the U.K. has conscription. These people have chosen to enlist. Soldiers choose their job, the tools of their job are designed to kill people, & their families & friends surely understand the risks involved. I am genuinely puzzled by the outrage in this part of the world every time a serviceman in a war dies.

i noticed theres some question's on here that are similar but most are missing out facts like CANADA beat the USA before even it it was nearly 200 yrs ago and canada is a member of nato so if the us ever wanted to invade would they have to answer to nato.and one last thing ppl think that canada has a small army but i'm sure a lot more canadians even the ones from quebec would enlist to fight off a threat.

so i dont think it would be as easy as some ppl "americans" think i mean they are losing against Iraq

My ex just finished boot camp and is stationed somewhere in Mississippi. I don't have any details on his status because he doesn't include me on any of this. We have a daughter (I have cared for solely since age 2). He hasn't seen her since several months prior to boot camp. He is ordered to pay child support, which he does and to carry insurance on her, which he never has.

Last week I got a letter from social services stating that I needed to enroll my daughter in DEERS in order to get her military insurance and ID cards. I called the number provided but basically got no answers. They're telling me that everything has to be done on his end. I'm fairly certain that he has her listed as a dependant (they say he gets paid more if he does that, even if the child's not in his custody). What I don't know is whether or not there is anything I can do to get her into DEERS. I seem to be getting so much contradictory info. I have no way to contact him. Please help...

I have a cousin who was in the military and realized he was getting paid less then a quarter of what private contractors were getting paid . He then weighed his options , searched around and found a better deal for his services . He got fat on purpose , got out of the US military and now works for Black Water and makes upwards of $70,000 .

My question is - Do other soldiers look down on a man who leaves the US army for a better pay or do soldiers resent the man ?

I have heard soldiers say they would do in Bush and Cheney in a heartbeat (they were just back from seeing friends blown to bits for oil) but never heard of suicides before.

WASHINGTON - Army soldiers committed suicide last year at the highest rate in 26 years, and more than a quarter did so while serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, according to a new military report.

The report, obtained by The Associated Press ahead of its scheduled release Thursday, found there were 99 confirmed suicides among active duty soldiers during 2006, up from 88 the previous year and the highest number since the 102 suicides in 1991 at the time of the Persian Gulf War.

My thoughts are that we have been raised or have raised a generation so selfish, that they are incapable of putting anything before themselves.

They do, in a way, realize that they're selfish, but they don't want to admit to their faults, and decide to blame their problems and their apathetic nature on the actions of others... In other words, they'll blame Bush, the republicans, the democrats (give it time, it'll happen), homeland security and the patriot act, etc... but they won't get off their butts and actually do something about it.

What are your thoughts on this?
