I recently got a call from the marines. they said I have filled out something that says I am interested in joining. They asked me some questions(I didnt answer them)
Should I be worried that someone is using my info?

I would call them back and say this is for identity information: You want the location this information was filled out and to whom it was given to (get names and places and how they got your number etc). This is to know whether they are telling the truth, legit (incase a scammer trying to get personal information to access your Idenity further) and to let them know to not contact you.

If you are not interested, let them know (some recruiters are pushy, like mine and my husband was at times). But, be pushy if they said someone or yourself gave information you did not give.

That be very shady if they are calling houses and using that as a form to get you interested. To which, I had the Army and Marines (knowing I got out on medical: marines that is) call me asking if I am interested....after I got Hon, Med discharge...which I let them know. After a few personal "visits" to their office they finally stop calling.

Don't worry about it. What happens is that you filled out something a while ago, maybe at an airshow, some career day at school. When you turn 17 the local recruiter gets what is called a hot lead or a PPC. It just has what info put on the card a while ago. If you are interested make an appointment and go see them. Now don't give your SSN, or home address. If they make an appointment with you then there are legit Marines calling you.

The no child left behind act specially gives the Military recruiters access to a list of all graduating students. Specific procedure, and individual styles on how to use this list by recruiters vary and vary in consistency as well.

You did the right thing not to answer anything as I believe a recruiter would have been interested in talking to you about your options and not verifying your personal info. I find the best way to identify a legitimate call is to question the caller, provider no info yourself to them, and then use the internet to call them back.

For example: Ask the caller their name or ID number (full name), the name of their company, their specific location, and the address to mail a letter to their company. You can further ask what dept or div the person is in. If after getting all this info you want to answer their questions and talk to them, call them back by looking up the info they gave you on the internet or via the phone book. For example, "what recruiter station are you calling from", "what is the address". Then look that location up and call him or her back.

No. It's all public record. Did you, or are you about to graduate from high school? If so, they found you in the year book. You've probably filled out a selective service card (assuming you obey the law). They will use that to say you're interested in enlisting.

If you filled nothing out then you have nothing to fear. The Marine Corp. calls everyone on their 18th birthday no matter what. That doesn't mean you have to join but they are simply giving you the chance to.
