It just seems all we can do as a sivalization is kill each other, and to hell with anyone who tries to get in the way. If we as a people would worked harder on our relationship with other countries and less on killing we may get farther then i believe we ever will in this life time.

Someone I know may be going there (Air Force), and I am very worried. I would like to know how safe the airport is. I know that the road leading to town is never safe, but I would like to hear from anyone who's in the know about that area......I don't expect many details, just a general answer is fine. Thanks so much

Browsing Y!A, it seems that at least a couple of people have studied multiple languages under the auspices of one or another branch of the U.S. military, but I'm wondering how common this is and what it is dependent on. It also seems that the choice of language is entirely up to the military, but at least one person mentioned the possibility of putting a specific language in your contract. Can anyone shed some light on this for me? I'm particularly interested in hearing from people who have studied multiple languages and/or worked with multiple languages as military linguists. Finally, does every branch of the military have linguist positions, and do linguists in the different branches generally do pretty much the same job?

Thanks in advance for your help.

He was also a friend of mine, we used to drop people alive from airplanes, as US officers told us they did in Vietnam ,during the lessons at The School of The Americas ( they were green berets!).

I have never read any official articals from the DNC regarding their implying that Bush stole the national elections. After all that ballot counting: once, twice, five, or twenty times. The results always came up with Bush winning. It was a real fight that all Americans had to endure. A honerable person should appologize. I bring this up because it looks as if Iraq may end up turning out very well in the end leaving the DNC in the need for another appology. Any comments.

Does anyone have a list of the military postions (from private up I suppose) from WW2? My grandfather served in the Pacific as a white house correspondent and fought as a Sgt. Major, I was just wondering how notable that position would be.

Also, does anyone know how many Sgt. Majors there were?

Thanks

So my husband's Army reenilstment bonus hit the bank this morning. It was a $25,000 bonus, we were figuring that 30 to 35% tax would be taken out just as it was the last time he got a bonus but it was way more...only about half of that bonus hit the bank. He had it set up to all come in one lump some so my question is if you have recived a bonus recently how much tax was taken out?

I transfered it all to savings and dont plan to touch it until he returns from DSS just incase it was a misake, it just doesn't seem correct.

let me know what you think.

There has been a monthly average of 160,000 troops in the Iraq theatre of operations during the last 22 months, and a total of 2,867 deaths. That gives the firearm death rate of 60 per 100,000 soldiers.
The firearm death rate in Washington DC is 80.6 per100,000 persons for the same period.
That means that you are about 25% more likely to be shot and killed in the U.S. capital than you are in Iraq.
Conclusion: The U.S. should pull out of Washington.

My husband will be graduating soon from DSS and Im just wondering how I should dress? I would never show up in jeans and I know I dont need a formal dress but how dressed up should I be? I will also be bringing our little girls ages 5 and 1. What should I expect to happen at the graduation...I know it's a smaller group of men and women graduating so it shouldn't take to long but how does the whole thing usually play out?

5 weeks ago my husband submitted and ERD packet. We are living in Germany. 4 weeks ago he PCSed to a different post here in Germany. He will be going down range with his new company. So, we had decided that it would be better for my daughter and I to return CONUS. Everybody else who submitted the packet, for the same reason and at the same time, has recieved their orders. When I call the orderly room to check on it, they say they have not heard anything about it. I was wondering who I should talk to about this. He lives about an hour and a half from me. He can't take off work to check on it. I am just a spouse and do not get the same respect that he gets.

I have a question for all those army admin types. I spent 26 1/2 years with active and reserve Navy. Recently I left the navy reserves and joined my state Nat Guard. I was recently handed a set of orders for OEF for 13-18 months.
I have a son that is 21 and a full time college student that I support while in school....rent, books, living expenses, tuition, etc, etc.
I was recently told by some army pay clerk that he isn't my dependent therefore while on OEF orders I won't recieve BAH for him. While with the Navy reserves when called to duty I recieved BAH, just had to provide a yearly update from his school showing he was full time and in good standing.
The clerk says Army pay regs are completely different from Navy pay regs. I understand that there might be SOME difference, but this different?
Where can I find Army Dependent definition regs?

As far as I know only two commoners have ever been so honoured, wellington and churchill. Surely the last survivor of the great war ought to be so honoured as a tribute to all of those ordinary men for whom duty was spelled with a capital D?

Do you know of our brave allied prisoners?

Today in George Square, Glasgow there will be a remembrance walk to commemorate for the first time the acknowledgement that while Britain celebrated Japan's surrender the POW's, regimental and civilian, were still suffering at the hands of the Japanese army.

The FEPOWs (Far East Prisoners of War) endured 3 ½ years of the most horrific mental and physical treatment, including starvation, diseases, over-work, beatings, torture etc. Those lucky enough to return home continued to suffer in silence with ongoing nightmares and bad health, yet they endeavored to try and live normal lives, never complaining or asking for anything. They have never been fully recognized for all the mental and physical torment they went through, and we would like to see that they are permanently honored with a memorial day in their name.

Please post their name, rank and regiment in memoriam.
