My thoughts are that we have been raised or have raised a generation so selfish, that they are incapable of putting anything before themselves.

They do, in a way, realize that they're selfish, but they don't want to admit to their faults, and decide to blame their problems and their apathetic nature on the actions of others... In other words, they'll blame Bush, the republicans, the democrats (give it time, it'll happen), homeland security and the patriot act, etc... but they won't get off their butts and actually do something about it.

What are your thoughts on this?

By the way, my definition of being patriotic is putting something before your own selfish needs, whether it be for your country, your family, your friends, or an ideal.

I'm with ya. No doubt about it. The US is quickly becoming a nation of ignorant slobs. We cherish money, cell phones, status, cars, and anything else that doesn't, ultimately, mean a thing.

There is a sub-culture in the US that still cherishes what the WWII generation brought forth. Those are the ones that die for the flag. Those are the ones that can truly claim citizenship. The rest of us are living off of them and should hang our heads low, instead we walk around like we did something. Like what?

I'm a democrat (not a liberal, not a socialist).

But first and foremost I am patriot.

I put my country ahead of my personal ideology.

I am not a political bigot.

When I see a republican, I assume they are a patriot until they prove otherwise.

Disagreeing with me is NOT proof they are not a patriot.

It's a lot more popular than you think. The loud and obnoxious don't decide it. We do.

In a recent poll, 77% of United States citizens said they were VERY proud of their country.

It put us at the top of a long list of countries.

There's a lot more of us than of them.

It is no longer cool to be "unpatriotic, American-hating, and politically bigoted".

Speak up when you see it, even in your own party.

I do. I've been called, "Neocon" more times than I can count.

Not as many times as I was called "Lib" during President Clinton's terms, but President Bush isn't out of office, yet.

Keep speaking up, everyone. Free speech was our fight (Democrats, thanks Republicans for joining in).

Use it.

The question you ask is a good one. First to "jump ship was Corporate America"!!!! GM Ford Chrysler Milicron Mattel Frigidaire, heck Evan a by cycle co. named Huffy. WalMart wanted cheaper prices after Sam Walton died cause he took pride in "American Made", his heirs did not . All they wante was cheaper pricing and whatever it took to get it Ok.I personally will defend the USA to the death!! This "Gun Control thing" was and is the first thing the politicians did to disarm us. They tried to tell America it was unpatriotic to own a gun when in the past it was "UN American not to"!!!!!!Yea , a bunch of Socialists liberalas are trying to make the USA a nation to fall in with the "World Order of Manufacturing to where everyone is a set of hands without a mind. Study what happened in New Orleans after Katrina and what the NRA did to stop the the La local, county and State Govt . from trying to take away the 2nd Amendment Rights of its citizens.

I am not patriotic because of popularity; I am patriotic because I love this country.
