I haven't heard about this happening recently but it has happened in the past and the whale usually loses but they can cause a lot of damage to the hull of a submarine. The SONAR dome can be completely destroyed by a whale strike since it's made of fiberglass.

SONAR does not filter out biologics. Whatever the hydrophone picks up is what the SONAR operator hears in his headset. It will also be seen on the broadband and narrow-band monitors as a frequency spike. But whales don't make noise all the time. A swimming whale can be as quiet as a church mouse when submerged and not at the surface for air.

I have never heard of an American submarine hitting a whale. A Pegesus class hydrofoil did strike a whale back in the 1980s. The hydrofoil sustained damage to equipment mountings, but the whale was killed.

Submarines are much stronger built, but the sonar dome is weaker than the rest of the hull.

Submarine sonar would be able to detect any whales and would try to avoid hitting them.

Nah! Whales can "hear" the ping of sonar before the sub can detect them, and leave the location.

Hadn't heard this one, kind of doubt it.

However, radar doesn't travel underwater. You're thinking of sonar. And most passive sonar systems filter out biological contacts. Subs don't use typical using active sonar. So it is theoretically possible.

nope but they have radar and all that good stuff to detect any objects around its perimeter. That would be cool though. lol
