In the same way that this generation has identified with the folly of Vietnam.

Both wars had /have little support and escalation mearly created a worst outcome. Both wars were based on lies and deceit and both wars bought out a new disenfranchised society from among the veterans who fought.

Society always owes its fighting personnel a gratitude win or lose, do you think Iraq veterans will get the same support from the next generation that vietnam veterans have had.

Hi, I'm considering enlistment in either the Air National Guard or the Air Force Reserves. I have been looking into jobs in the personnel field in general, and also more specifically in Military Equal Opportunity or Information Management.

Any (*serious*) input as to the nature of these career fields would be greatly appreciated!

Also, I'd like to know anything about the difference between the National Guard and the Reserves.

I am specifically looking for information about deployment related to these career fields, whether or not they deploy, how often, if it's mandatory or volunteer, etc. I would also like to know if anyone knows whether or not these careers are eligible for the Air Reserve Technician program.

I realize that recruiters typically answer these questions, but they are not always honest, so I would love to hear from anyone who's had experience in either of these career fields.

Thanks in advance for the advice!

My boyfriend and I are in college. We've been together for almost a year and talk about marriage all the time.

He talked to the military recruiter today (he told me he would yesterday).. and he said that he now may go into it. He'll be able to get any kind of job and they'll pay for school. He would be gone for the whole summer.. and next summer. It's like he poured all this to me at once. We would've had a heartfelt talk... but my brother and his friend were there. So I couldn't say anything. He said he's gonna talk to his dad. He used to be in the military. Basically, my boyfriend is thinking about joining just to pay for college.

My heart is breaking. I'm about to cry. I don't think it really hit me yet... I won't be seeing him on weekends and summers anymore. I don't know. And the whole thing about a chance of him dying? My God... I couldn't handle that.

Someone please help me feel better. What is it like in the military? And what is it like for their significant others?

I just find so many of the questions so TRITE and uninformed that I ignore them. Do any of you actually READ answers and evaluate the information or are your minds so closed that you can not accept input to validate or deny/change your opinions? It seems to me that most of you have NO concept of human rights, world stability or the environmental/economic issues involved; it is just COOL to be anti-war. It seems that this whole WAR screws up YOUR LIFE of ENTITLEMENT (15-35) and you are just not used to having disruption in your life or being told how wonderful that you are. How would you deal with gas at $10 a gallon, massive UV because some third world country rattled their sword with a NUKE TEST? With gas a $10 a gal you would NOT be allowed to drive; maybe a bike? Your generation SCARES me to DEATH for the sake of my granddaughters. THINK AND LEARN, because is IS NOT ALL about YOU as you have been taught. Think independantly and make a DIFFERENCE. Check some of my posts.

On this board sevral tiems on the war debate. Ive heard people say that if we pull out of Iraq they are afraid of what will happen. Im not being sarcastic but im genuinely interested in what you think will happen if we pull out. My personal take on is that we should leave immdeatly and get out of Iraq.

So now China has got a new missile that can shoot down space sattelites. I'd say it's pretty reasonable. Why would China let the US and Europe have total control in space? Notice that this is a defence measure, like the US install anti-missile equipment and plan to install laser weapons in sattelites in space "for protection"...
But in the news all we see is complaints about China. What's your opinion?

Like a lot of people who join the military...I joined for the education, benefits, travel, get away from home for a while, and to serve my country. 4.5 years later I am out of the military and only one college class under my belt...and I was told that I had to take a class then which was my first summer away from home (besides basic and tech school)...after that summer I was ready to take a couple of classes but everytime that I tried "I was the only experience in the office" or there were inspections, exercises, deployments, or rotations coming up that we had to get ready for...

I guess what I'm trying to ask is how many other folks got "screwed" like me...at least I do have my MGIB...

THANKS!!

35 years ago I protected the United States. ( Or so I was told ) Now I'm told how the American Soldiers build schools and fix factories to make clean water, Build products, Fix roads, in Iraq. Detroit just had over 50 schools close so why not help Americans! Plus the roads are bad in the Detroit area. Someone forget about the Americans?

Why should members of the services feel threatened when they are on college campuses? Why do so many dipshiits constantly badmouth our soldiers and marines? Why does the media report 10 bad things for every good thing the military does?

I really think I just might have to slap the next dumbazz slack-jawed college-phag who runs his mouth off about 'how the military is dumb' or whatever....
