Hi, I'm considering enlistment in either the Air National Guard or the Air Force Reserves. I have been looking into jobs in the personnel field in general, and also more specifically in Military Equal Opportunity or Information Management.

Any (*serious*) input as to the nature of these career fields would be greatly appreciated!

Also, I'd like to know anything about the difference between the National Guard and the Reserves.

I am specifically looking for information about deployment related to these career fields, whether or not they deploy, how often, if it's mandatory or volunteer, etc. I would also like to know if anyone knows whether or not these careers are eligible for the Air Reserve Technician program.

I realize that recruiters typically answer these questions, but they are not always honest, so I would love to hear from anyone who's had experience in either of these career fields.

Thanks in advance for the advice!

Today's military is very different from my day. I served in the Marine Corps for 12 years and, not surprisingly, I was a rifleman. I moved into other areas over the years, of course, but there were no guarantees in those days (1956-1969).

The Air NC and AF Reserves are not up my alley, but I do have a young friend I worked with who is in the Air NC. Apparently, you can ask for a specific field you are interested in, but you will still be required to pass certain tests to qualify. Those tests are administered after enlistment. Nevertheless, if they accept your enlistment, you need not worry about being a rifleman.

join the army or army reserves. you will be able to pick a specific job. air force deploys also. you will be more prepared with the army or army reserves. reserves are federal only and national guard can be called on by the federal government or the state government. anymore questions email me at chkibo2000@yahoo.com

As an Air force wife I would just like to say DO NOT BELIEVE ANYTHING RECRUITERS SAY. I wish you the best, and hope you find what you want.
