I am not afraid of pulling out of Iraq. I do not believe this is the basis of most arguments in favor of trying to finish with nothing short of complete victory - a stable and democratic Iraqi government with the power to provide safety and security for her people.
I honestly think if we "cut and run" (redeployment is a euphemism for cut and run) we will only have to fight much better organized and equipped terror organizations at a later date. History has proven that apathy and inaction only results in more terror attacks.
This demented ideology of world domination under Islamic law is not going to just fade away if we ignore it. And a victory for the terrorists would only confirm their belief that the indiscriminate murder of innocent people is a successful tactic - and people don't usually change successful tactics.
I believe that the fact is, we can finish the fight now, or we can face a much more dangerous fight in the future.
Better we nip this one in the bud, eh? Consider the lives that might have been saved had Hitler and his demented ideology been stopped before it was allowed to fester (an estimated 62 Million lives were lost stopping the Nazi agenda in WWII)

It is my belief that if we were to leave Iraq now, most of the locals who have been cooperating with us would be killed. This is what happened when we left Vietnam. It is also likely that the Iranian gov't would attempt to form a Clerical Islamic State in Iraq by proxy through the use of Shiite militias. This is what the Syrians do in Lebanon by using Hezbollah as an insurgent army. The loss of Iraq to an extremist government would embolden Iran and Syria. Iran has publicly stated their desire to destroy Israel. The president of Iran, Ahmadinejad, has suggested that it's about time for Armageddon. This kind of thing makes Israel extremely nervous. Israel has nuclear weapons and German made missile subs. Need I go on . . .

The US took out a stable though evil government, so there would be disorder if the US left before the country is stabilized.
Saddam's partisans ("the insurgency") could get back into power. If they did, they could terrorize the population and subsidize foreign terrorists just as Saddam did.
If the Shia extremists, backed by Iran, should gain power, the balance of power in the region would be tipped. Saddam's Iraq tended to balance Iran, though both regimes were reprehensible.
The Islamist militants, such as Al Qaeda, are now focused on Iraq because they see a democracy in the Middle East as a loss to Islam. If the democracy fails, they would be more free to attack the US and other Western countries.

I don't know if Syria is a Sunni Muslim country, but I basically agree with Geronimo. If we pull out of Iraq like a bunch of bleeding heart liberals, then Iran will certainly pour an unlimited supply of money, arms, and ammunition into the hands of the Shias. Saudi Arabia will not want their fellow Sunni Muslims killed off so they will do likewise for the Sunnis in Iraq. There would be essentially an Iran/Saudi-Arabian war waged in Iraq. I'm not sure who would win such a war, but Iran is not friendly to the U.S. like Saudi-Arabia. There's almost 1400 years of anger and hate between the Sunnis and the Shias. Chit-Chat from bleeding heart liberals is not going to resolve their differences. Are you ready to put on a burqa?

I am not afraid what will happen.
Here is what I think will happen.
1. Saudi Arabia, Syria will back the Sunnis
2. Iran will back the Shiites
3. More countries will be brought into the fight
4. Iran will eventually win the battle for the oil fields.
5. 1/2 the worlds oil supply will be in the hands of a country that supports terrorists.
6. This in turn will effect the global economy.
7. Eventually we will have to go back in, under much more dangerous circumstances for our military men and women.
I hope I am totally wrong!

They would keep killing each other, but not Americans. It would begin to fade from the news, and we would deal with our real problems. You should have heard all of the terrible things that were supposed to happen to us if we lost in Vietnam, all the world countries would fall like dominoes to Communism, we would be surrounded, have to fight them on our own shores. Fear is the best motivator, expect to hear it a lot about what will happen when we get out of Iraq, as we will eventually have to do. Sure bad things will happen, it is just that they will not be so bad as if we stay.
