I would like to know how he got his name uncle sam

Uncle Sam was a nickname created by soldiers in the revolutionary war (it could have been a later war.) In any case the soldiers received supplies with the label. USAM (United States of America). The clever soldiers started saying they received their supplies from Uncle Sam. Over time Uncle Sam became a symbol for the US Government.

Until after the civil war people in the United States didn't really identify with or even want a national government. They thought of the US government like a distant uncle you only saw on holidays.
