You can join the US Army without being a US citizen, but you must be a legal immigrant to do so.
The career fields you can enter are limited, because you cannot obtain a security clearance.
Length of service is also limited, and is different in each service.
There is now an accelerated program to gain citizenship, where you can gain citizenship during your first enlistment. In the past, legal immigrants were forced to leave the military, complete thier citizenship requirements and then enlist again.
As of 2007 there are 35,000 legal immigrants in the US military.
Navy- 16,000
Marines- 6,500
Army- 5,000
Air Force- 3,000

Like RS said there are contractors. I am currently In the Military and checking into working for a contractor, it probably won't be on the combat side. I have experience in the positions I am applying for and a related B.A. I do possess the qualities and have the qualifications they are looking for. With out a Military background I wouldn't. There is no civilian counter part to my job. Contactors have to hire a certain numbers of vets to maintain there contracts. If you have specific experience esp. in an area that the Military doesn't offer than you maybe could get hired by a contractor. But fighting or combat jobs are something the Military does train in and the contactors will probably prefer a Military background for a "fighting" position.

Yes you can join the Army.
My son served with some men of Mexican heritage while in Iraq.
Point two you can study and take the citizenship test. Many of those men did so.
Just keep all your paperwork in order and talk to a recruiter.

It is very possible to be in the military without being a citizen, I have known a number of soldiers that have done that-however, you have to be a citizen to reenlist or hold a secret clearance. There is no "fasttrack" to citizenship from being in the military (However, I think there should be-I should write my congressmen).

Yes and it qualifies you to apply for citizenship in 3 years instead of 5, sometimes sooner.

Yes, it is possible. Then later, you can be sworn in as an American citizen. I remember reading it in our base's paper before, lol. But I went and found some info at the website listed below.
