Like a lot of people who join the military...I joined for the education, benefits, travel, get away from home for a while, and to serve my country. 4.5 years later I am out of the military and only one college class under my belt...and I was told that I had to take a class then which was my first summer away from home (besides basic and tech school)...after that summer I was ready to take a couple of classes but everytime that I tried "I was the only experience in the office" or there were inspections, exercises, deployments, or rotations coming up that we had to get ready for...

I guess what I'm trying to ask is how many other folks got "screwed" like me...at least I do have my MGIB...

THANKS!!

I know the AF is not the same as the other branches...but at one time I was a 2 striper with running the office...had to deal with the wing commander to bail butter bars out of trouble a couple times a week...and generally got to work at 6 am and didn't leave till about 12 hours later...just to get the job done...

I joined the Navy right out of high school as a nuclear machinist mate and by the time that I had time to take a class underway we were in a overhaul. I joined not to attend college while in but to get away from my parents and serve our country. I did sign up for the GI Bill but thanks to that ***hole of a President in the 90's I got screwed with how much help it was (he basically froze the amount that the GI Bill paid out versus the actual cost of education). Some of the people that I worked with got picked up to attend college to become an officer and others had time to take computer based classes while underway. I was still qualifying during our last run so I had no time.

you got what you paid for, not the dream vacation of getting an college education while wearing the uniform. personally I went in expecting to go to college after wards and didn't get disappointed between deployments, late hours, etc. Sorry to give you the low down of it but the fine print on the contract makes no guarantee of going to school while holding the line.

Distance learning, on line courses, college correspondance courses are all available. If you were "Screwed" it was your own doing. And yes damn it I know what I'm talking about because I also was in and always made excuses. I retired 8 years ago so at least you are younger and still have the luxury of time.

your focus was on the military during your AD time. Nobody promised you all the time in the world to take college courses while on AD. That's what the GI Bill is for.. so that you can get yoru education after having served your time.

You didnt get "screwed", You could have taken classes after COB ( close of business ). After final formation they cannot make you stay at work. Many colleges offer night classes. Your MGIB still works on the outside as well.

I haven't used my MGIB yet because they paid for a B.S. and M.A. for me while on active duty (it was not easy, I still have nightmares about missing assignments since I was working full-time, deployments, etc). When I retire I will use it for my second Masters or Ph.D.

If you are still in, try www.umuc.edu (that is where I got one of my B.S.s while on active duty, distance education).

chill out, if all you wanted was money you should have applied for acholarships and financial aid. you should have known there is a possibility that you cant take as many classes as you want
