Hopefully it's because after seeing the carnage, strife and loss that war brings your conscience has led you to see things another way. Really amazing when you figure how primitive war is that we still continue to fight them, although there are never truly winners.

Those wars were created by the powers that be for their own reasons. We soldiers had to do the dirty work. And some of us came back dead and broken in minds as well as bodies. I was in the service during Viet nam. When I got out I wasn't ashamed, and I wasn't proud. (not to take away anything from those who were)
I didn't feel like I was in the service for my country's freedom. It was just an unpleasant chore that I had to do. When I got out of the service,I just went on with my life, and never looked back.
Before those wars started, the outcome had already been determined. I understand why you would be ashamed, but the shame isn't on us,who served.

I believe you have been listening to the wacko's on the left again.

Nobody knows how things are going to turn out when we enter into conflicts. We elect folks to make decisions the best they can and we agree to do what they say when push comes to shove. This is democracy. There has never been a war, or conflict for the PC crowd, that anyone wanted to fight in. War is hell. And there is no doubt of that. But sometimes they are required.

How many perished needlessly because we delayed getting into World War II? Would Pearl Harbour have happened if we jumped in earlier? No one knows the answer or ever will. We do the best we can with the folks we've got.

Anyone giving you grief over your military service is obviously anti-American as well and should be treated as such. Avoid them if and when possible.

Join up at Military.com and add your experience and thoughts as it seems appropriate. You might locate your boys and offer/recieve support to/from them as well.

It takes a lot to sacrifice your time (and maybe your life) for your country and that is one of the things uniquely American.

In case you are wondering, I was convinced by my high school guidance counselor in 1972 that college would be better. So I was entering college about the time the Southeast Asian School of Conflict Resolution was closing up shop. But if I had chosen to enlist, I would be proudly ending this commentary with "Semper Fi".

We did not lose in any of those wars. The Military was never defeated. The Politicians pulled us out and Tied our hands while there. I suspect your another one of those who try to make discord. Over 700 questions like this you have asked. If your so sad to be a American, then go else where and apply for citizenship there. I served and I am PROUD too.

WHY are you ashamed? I AM very proud to say that I SERVED in the U.S. Marines from 1972 - 1980. I have NO regrets what-so-ever. Did I see and do some things that I did NOT like. YES, But it comes with the job so to say. When did you serve? And again I will ask you, WHY are you ashamed?

The USA military??? Which branch, exactly, is that? As the wife of a retired Marine I can honestly say I have never heard anyone say "I served in the USA military". Why does it seem like you are not for real? Hmmmm....

YOU ARE PATHETIC!!!! how can you serve in the military and be ashamed of it. I think it would be an honor to serve. You must be one of these liberal tree hugging liberals that think that military is a waste of government funding.
grow some pride and be proud that you were defending the greatest country in the world. be proud of all the fallen soldiers that have fought in battles to preserve the lifestyle you have today. WTF!!!!

I saw an answer you gave to another question here and now I gotta say I'm doubting you ever served in a combat unit. They have this thing called "friendly fire" and you would have been a perfect candidate. What is our lesson, exactly.and why don't you teach it to us,******?Of course you can always move to one of those countries who have learned their lesson and enjoy the freedoms they offer their citizens.
