The atomic bomb is the ultimate weapon only in the sense that it can hender a nation from being overthrown. They act as a checking system for the powerful governments in the world, to force them to moderate thier actions.
Atomic weapons arn't the ultimate weapon because in most , if not all conflicts, they cannot be used because of the moral, ethinical implications of thier use.
Good examples would be:
Atomic weapons more than likely have prevented a third world war between the west and the east.
On the other hand, in regional conflicts like Vietnam, Korean War, Gulf War, atomic weapons were morally, ethicialy and politically useless.

No. Neither the atomic bomb (fission) nor the hydrogen bomb (fusion and much more powerful) are ultimate weapons.
I say this based on mankind's history.
Every time a new weapon has been produced, a newer, more effective weapon soon follows.
When the bow and arrow became popular, suits of armor were developed - soon followed by the cross bow, which would send a bolt (arrow) clean through the suit of armor. And then along came gun powder......and on and on it goes.

Its big noisy and can knock down cities and kill a lot of people. But in the end its the last man standing with an AK47 that has the ultimate weapon. And after that, the one with the biggest rock. I guess the ultimate weapon would be, now this may sound crazy, but to stop looking for enemies, and start looking for friends. What is Nixon biggest accomplishment (i mean positive accomplishment), it was opening up a dialog with our 2nd most feared potential enemy, China. Now we work together with them every day. The most powerful weapon, the one that will win out in the end, will be the power of understanding over fear.

The ultimate weapon in a war is deception. No matter what kind of weapon you have there will always be a defense to it. Eventually they will find one for nuclear arms, which by the way arent very good for hugs.

its not. it does the job, but its a cowards weapon. i say a f22 or an su-47 strike aircraft are better, deadly, but honourable and accurate.
