Lots of people say they support the US soldiers even if they disagree with the President or the US policies. If you do then please address the "President" of the United States properly. Disrespect and bashing the President does not support our soldiers. I will respect you and the President no matter who he/she might be, please do the same with your opinions so we can show the world we are the greatest country in the world even if we disagree on issues.

What is the format for the draft? How does the government decide who goes on what day and if they qualify or not? Do a whole new group of people leave for the military on a single day or is it spread out over a longer period? And, if the draft goes on for 4 years or something like that, will everyone between the age requirements be considered/go into the military, and if so, for how long does one serve? Thanks.

In Oct 1983 241 Marines were killed by a terrorist bomb. What did the Marines do? They tucked their tails between their legs and Cut and Ran!! they ran like there was no tomorrow. Real Marines from WW two would have kicked butt all over the place. Marines have gone soft.

Think about it, they should pay their dues right away just like all of us.They are all naturally great in the desert. Good night vision, patrol avoidance, tunnelling (think osamma), smuggelling, Fence climbing. Forging documents. blending in with ,locals(they could pass for an Iraqi). agriculture. Worst case dont train them just drop them near a potential target and use them as decoys. Hey pretty good deal for free health care, wellfare checks, freeways, schools, police, everything else we and our fore fathers paid for.

Ok--high schoolers--Have the army recruiters started calling you yet?
From the summer before my senior year all the way through to the summer AFTER my senior year, I had this one recruiter calling me at least 8-10 times a week. This was in 1995-96. It got to the point that he was calling every day at 7am. My parents threated to press charges for harrassment. Nothing worked with this jackass. The guy just would NOT take a hint!
Finally, toward the end of the fall after graduation, I just told him, "Look, you need to quit calling me. I can't join the army. You wouldn't want me anyway. I'm GAY!"

*click*

He hung up and I never heard from him again. The one and only time I've ever told anyone I'm gay. Which I'm not, by the way; but it got him off my case finally!

I know this isn't really a question; I just wanted to share.

And don't start on me about hating the military, etc. Save it. I'm a guard at Ft.Bragg for f***s sake! (private contractor).

I would like to tell you that you are wrong to fight for Bush. You are not courageous troops that are fighting for not only our freedom, but the freedom of countries that do not have any idea of what the word {freedom} actually means. We, as American fools, sit in the safe and comfortable confines of our homes in a stupid country, some complaining that the war is costing too much money,( It Is ) soldiers are dying for Nothing. Our government doesn't know what it is doing, ( TRUE) It is very disturbing and heart-breaking to see troops die for nothing. The hardships that our soldiers have made and are facing to give us our rights and freedoms but only if you are rich and can buy justice. Instead of complaing about the war, we as good Americans should request the troops to come home from this worthless war which will end up like Vietnam. (Defeat ) The USa Government will go down in shame. Once again of course.

U.S. could face a showdown with al-Sadr By ROBERT REID, Associated Press.

BAGHDAD, Putting more U.S. soldiers in the streets of Baghdad risks a major butt beating by the radical anti-American cleric who has modeled his movement after Lebanon's Hezbollah guerrillas.

Muqtada al-Sadr's Mahdi Army has re-emerged as a key force in the majority Shiite community after suffering substantial losses during two uprisings against the U.S. military in 2004. Sunni Arabs believe the militia is responsible for kidnapping and killing thousands of Sunnis since the Feb. 22 bombing of a Shiite shrine.

Al-Sadr's black-clad followers insist they simply protect Shiite communities that have suffered horrific losses at the hands of Sunni insurgents and religious extremists in Iraq since the collapse of Saddam Hussein's government. Whatever the truth, there is no way to restore order in Baghdad without dealing with this Iraq leader. The Marines crap when they see black clad followers.

I would like to personally thank all of the wonderful, courageous troops that are fighting for not only our freedom, but the freedom of countries that do not have any idea of what the word {freedom} actually means. We, as American civilians, sit in the safe and comfortable confines of our homes in a free country, some complaining that the war is costing too much money, soldiers are dying, our government doesn't know what it is doing, etc. It is very disturbing and heart-breaking that at the same time, they are benefiting from the sacrifies and hardships that our soldiers have made and are facing to give us our rights and freedoms. Instead of complaing about the war, we need to be thankful, showing our gratitude and respect toward the many men and women who are continuing to serve and to die for our rights and the freedoms that we take so much for granted each and every day. I thank you. May God be with you all. God bless the USA

But while I've been on Yahoo! answers I've come across numerous American's who seem to think the answer to everything is to just drop a nuke on it. Do people perceive the US to be trigger happy? And do the American's feel that its because of their government that people believe this?

There are reports that the Israelis may have been using phosphorus bombs against the Lebonese...I'm just wondering if this turns out to be true (nothing proved as yet) what will our leaders say? Will it be pushed under the carpet...because no chemical weapons have been found in Iraq, yet they are backing Israel who 'may be' using them...
If this is proved and pushed under the carpet/ignored surely something seriously wrong is going on and the citizens of Britain/The USA should tell our leaders to get the hell out of office!

When you look at the cases of Iraq and Lebanon, neither "situation" has been aided or eliminated by wars engaged by the USA or Israel. In Iraq, more and more civilians are being killed, while insurgent activities continue to increase. In Lebanon, civilian casualties pile up, while Israel’s destruction makes heroes out of the guerrillas. What type of moron uses a bazooka to kill a fly? If war is a proper tool to combat terrorism why has the Iraq war gone on so long, why has Israel killed more civilians than guerrillas, and why are terrorist activities on the rise?

Iraq and Afghanistan are sink holes with ne end. No insurgency has ever been put down militarily less Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge. This brew ha ha is going to drag out 12 years or more. Those serving in the worse parts of it are usually children from low income families who could not afford college. Those recruiters must be very good, or these low income kids so dumb they are duped into inlisting. Why don't they just go get a real job? Instead of copping out in the military. I don't know what signing bonus they were promised, but you can't collect if you are dead, and it is a small price to be paid for coming back an amputee.
