Why is it believed that terrorism can be beaten through war?

When you look at the cases of Iraq and Lebanon, neither "situation" has been aided or eliminated by wars engaged by the USA or Israel. In Iraq, more and more civilians are being killed, while insurgent activities continue to increase. In Lebanon, civilian casualties pile up, while Israel’s destruction makes heroes out of the guerrillas. What type of moron uses a bazooka to kill a fly? If war is a proper tool to combat terrorism why has the Iraq war gone on so long, why has Israel killed more civilians than guerrillas, and why are terrorist activities on the rise?

When a country uses warfare to confront terrorism, the only certainty is civilian death. How efficient are tanks, jets, battalions of men against a group of guerrillas that can move from one country to the next? Israel has dealt with countless years of terrorism, by reacting through war. Yet, they are still fighting guerrillas, and they are still a hated country in the region. Israel (and the United States) have only angered the neutral citizens of countries by killing their innocent loved ones. Obviously, simply talking to terrorist will not do any good, but killing innocent people will not either. If any one is dumb enough to think that the war in Iraq or Lebanon will cease all terrorist acts (such as 9/11), I'm surprised you have the ability to read this.

WWII lasted from 1939-1945 & there were small battles & skirmishes before them. The current Iraq war started in 2003-2006, to be the longest it would have to last at least 3 more years, to be the costiliest it would have to be WWII cost 930 trillion instead of highest estimate of 600 billion by 2010.

The Iraqi war has been a lost cost in everyway except if it is your loved one. Terrorist can be beaten through war or by special ops
if congress would approve it.

The increase of civilan deaths are coming from the Iraqi soldier
taking control from Americans, they are not as well trained.

Terrorism cannot be beaten as long as one terrorist is left alive, like a hot ember left from a fire. The current world situation is like a massive fire and there will be a lot of embers. We can only hope to suppress terrorism until the embers die out..

On the other hand, while sit-at-home Americans and the media talk about how hopeless things are, many of those who have walked the walk and fought the fight say we are making progress and the fight is worth while.

Because people have the mistaken notion that the biggest gun wins. Vietnam proved that it doesn't. To think that you can defeat "Terrorist" by means of war is just plain dumb. Considering that there is not end in sight for this current conflict that will continue to escalate, how many "Terrorist" were born today?
