Ok--high schoolers--Have the army recruiters started calling you yet?
From the summer before my senior year all the way through to the summer AFTER my senior year, I had this one recruiter calling me at least 8-10 times a week. This was in 1995-96. It got to the point that he was calling every day at 7am. My parents threated to press charges for harrassment. Nothing worked with this jackass. The guy just would NOT take a hint!
Finally, toward the end of the fall after graduation, I just told him, "Look, you need to quit calling me. I can't join the army. You wouldn't want me anyway. I'm GAY!"

*click*

He hung up and I never heard from him again. The one and only time I've ever told anyone I'm gay. Which I'm not, by the way; but it got him off my case finally!

I know this isn't really a question; I just wanted to share.

And don't start on me about hating the military, etc. Save it. I'm a guard at Ft.Bragg for f***s sake! (private contractor).

I have to use an old quote from Bill Hicks about the gays in the military: "Here's how I feel about gays in the military: anyone...dumb enough to want to be in the military should be allowed in. End of f***ing story. That should be the only requirement. I don't care how many push-ups you can do, put on a helmet, go wait in that fox hole. We'll tell you when we need you to kill somebody. I've been watching all these Congressional hearings, and all these military guys and all the pundits going, 'The esprit de corps will be affected and we are such a moral...' excuse me, aren't you all a bunch of f***ing hired killers? shut up! When we want you to go kill a nation of little brown people we'll tell you, OK."

I was in the US Army. The recruiters I ran into were pricks and very aggressive. Next time they do that you can do 2 things:
Contact the Department of the Army and file a grievance for harrassment. Also document the times and the dates he called and his name. File a local police report.

Once all that is established and you have documentation then he should leave you alone. Also see if you can write the Better Business Bureau.

Note to all that would sign up: Recruiters lie to you and will say anything to get you in. They have to fulfill a quota every month. My recruiter lied to me!

I had the same problem. While away at college they kept calling my mom. I went to the local recruitment office and had a word with the guy there. After that I only got a few more calls. I pointed out that I"m short, fat, and have athsma, why in the world would they want me?

My mom did tell the Navy that I died though, she was sick of the guy calling twice a day. I really wish I had been there for that one, lol.

If he calls back be polite. Tell him you weren't trying to be rude when you spoke before but that you have had alot going on. Tell him that you have been discussing it with your parents and you decided that it may not be such a bad idea after all but to give you a little more time to think about it because you are trying to decide between the Army and the Marines. Tell him to call you in a week. When he calls back tell him you signed up for the Corps, Semper Fi

You check IDs at the gate? LOL

I thought all those guys did that AFTER they retired. You're not even prior service, who do you talk to? About what exactly? haha

Tell the recruiter you're not interested and don't give him a reason, he will leave you alone. He knows you're blowing smoke when you give excuses (which is what you do, give excuses) so he's going to keep bothering you. Just tell him not interested and carry on.

Yeah tell a stranger you're gay so he'll get off your back. That's a grown up response!!! LOL

"Have a good day" hahahaha

"That guy sounds gay to me." LOL

2 points! Word!

I one got a recruiter off my back by telling him that I was going to College in Annapolis, which is the location of the US Naval Academy. I was actually going to a small liberal arts school called St. John's College next door, but neglected to tell him that. Never got another call.

That one always works. I've also told them I'm already in the military, suddenly lost my ability to speak English, silly things like that, and those work too. They called me up until my sophomore year of college. And they still call my friend who is enrolled at the naval academy. You can't even elude them if you join!

could also tell them you're color blind if you want to avoid the "gay card". or look up any automatically disqualifying health problems (someone earlier mentioned asthma) and claim to have one. i'm not sure if honesty works for a recruiter like that, but if it doesn't work the first try, then i'd use a health card, if that doesn't work, use the gay card, or call the superior. any of these should work by themselves.

Well, I told the truth about being on medicine & seeing a psychiatrist, but they turned me down. I wanted to go so badly. Well, maybe u can tell them that & they'd leave u alone. Tell them u got Tourette's Syndrome. They'll most definitely not take u. Flunk the ASVAB on purpose. LOL
