I was curious what handgun officers carry? i know it differs from department to department i was just wondering what most departments do? the department I was looking at joining allows any firearm so long as it fires 9mm or .45 rounds? also does your department issue you a firearm or are you allowed to use your personal firearm (to include engraved firearms if you have one)?

Someone hacked into my girlfriend's yahoo and myspace accounts. They have changed the password and information on the yahoo account, so we can no longer access it. On myspace, they have compiled messages sent to several of her friends relating to an argument between her, my mother, and myself. They sent that compiled message to my mother and me, as well as put it in a bulletin for all of our friends to see. Those were private messages.

Is there anything we can legally do to this person. Any way to find out who it is? Any charges we can bring this person up on? Her mother knows some investigators, but is it actually possible to find out who did it?

Constantly dealing with society's trouble-makers can quickly sour any person's mood on a daily basis. The cummulative affect can make anyone generally irritable. Most people (incl. myself) have chosen poor words and actions when interacting with a cop in a bad mood. This seems to routinely complicate and escalate otherwise simple interactions with normally good citizens, and many citizens take the negativity in a personal way. It seems that most people hold the policeman completely responsible, as an officer of the peace, but I think that we have a responsibility to support them in doing a job which is psychologically very harsh and difficult.

As a police officer, what kinds of things have citizens done to improve the situation (boost morale, make you smile, build good cop-citizen relations)? Any suggestions?

Bonus follow-up question: Any tips on how to resonate/connect with an officer in a bad mood?

The question: "Are you withhelding any information about your drug usage history?" In the beginning, I was doing okay until the second and third time they ask. The 2nd time, I remembered that I have done marijuana twice instead of once. For the 3rd time, I was too scared to do anything. After the test, I wrote an admission about the picked up deception.

I'm 15 I've lived all my life on this road. There are houses all along either side of it, there is also an elementry school, and a church. and many subdivisoins on off roads. Many children walk home along this road. And many pets are killed, Including the dog I called my own for 10 long loving years. And I kept her in a fence. The speed limit is unfortanly 55mph. But the normal speed that people seem to go is around 70-75-80mph. Am I wrong to think this is unfair? In my 15 years of living here I've never seen amyone pulled over. I don't know why but 18wheelers and dump trucks use it as a short cut and fly past my house. We don't live out in the country or anything... I don't understand and my anger grows everyday. I see children walking home along the eadge of the road and I have to turn away for fear of seeing them get hit. I want to do something about it. People always say "Stand up for what you belive in." Well I am. But I don't know how to go about doing it. I need advise. Please.

What can I do to make it easier. We've been married 8 years, and I've always been supportive of his job. (when we were married, he was a sheriff's deputy, then undersheriff, now he's on a Drug Task Force. I love him, and he loves me, but I feel like a single mom a lot of the time and feel cheated out of a REAL marriage.

A group of about 15 Jr high school students were in from of my house yesterday and one of them threw a rock through my front window. My 15 yr old son was home at the time and chased down and caught up with one of the kids. He told my son the name of the person who threw the rock.

I called the police out to file a report I was told they would most likely not investigate the matter becasue it was not important enough. This is going to cost about $500 to repair, and my insurance deductable is $1000.

I'm trying to get more info about the student from the Jr high school so I can cantact the parents.

Why wont the cops investigate? If someone shoplifted something worth $500 I believe it would be a felony.

My 14 year-old son (high school freshman) has been hassled for a few weeks by an older kid (16) at school. Yesterday the kid confronted my son in the hallway and shoved him and threatened him and challenged him (again) to fight. My son refused and walked away. He went to the vice-principal and informed him, telling him he did not want to fight but didn't think this kid was going to stop. Both kids were counseled and advised that there would be consequences if either of them initiated any further conflict, verbal or physical.

After school, this kid and about 20 others from his "group" followed my son off school property and surrounded him. The kid confronted my son again, and then began hitting him. My son fought back until he could escape. Both have minor bruises and neither required medical attention. A teacher spotted the large group (50 or so, they say) and called the police. My son had left the scene before the teacher or police got there, but a police officer found him. My son panicked (he's never been in trouble with the police) and gave a false name when asked. The officer didn't fall for it, and my son gave the correct name. The officer transported him back to the school where they were sorting things out and threatened him with charges of obstructing justice and so forth for lying. My son apologized almost immediately and did not give the officer a hard time in any other way.

All of the details provided here were substantiated or deemed accurate by school personnel. This is NOT just "my son's version" of the story.

Since it happened off school property, the police will be handling the case. The superintendant has suggested that we press charges against this other kid. I have so many questions now.

1. How do I press charges and what charges would I ask for? How do I decide whether to file?
2. What kind of trouble is my son likely to be in for lying to the officer about his name?
3. Do we need to get a lawyer for either half of this situation?

Thanks for your input.

What happens if I don't give consent for the police to search my car at a regular traffic stop (speeding, blowing a stop sign, etc...)? In the past (& when I was younger), I've been arrested for possession of marijuana because either I admitted to having it in my car or let them search because I figured they'd just get a K-9 anyway. Now that I no longer smoke & no longer have anything illegal in my car, next time I'm asked I will NOT consent to a search. Will this piss the police off? Will they end up giving me a ticket whereas if I had cooperated, I might have only ended up with a warning? I don't plan on being rude, I just won't consent to a search of my vehicle & since there will be nothing illegal, I don't care if they get a K-9. (Hopefully I won't get pulled over, but, I was just wondering, what if...)

I was in the airforce for 2 years 9 months and I was medically discharged under honorble conditions for having been diagnosed with OCD(Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) My question is would this automatically DQ me from the Police Academy and becoming an actual police officer in the civilian world? I was a cop in the Airforce. I believe it was a lot to do with Maturity and the fact that I wasnt ready to be on my own. But I am more mature now and I want to save lives and become a cop. My question is Can I?

This was for a CA speeding ticket issued by the Highway Patrol. I forgot about the ticket and they garnished my wages. They took out 25% from both of my paychecks from my 2 jobs and they are still taking it out even though it is paid.
