I'm 15 I've lived all my life on this road. There are houses all along either side of it, there is also an elementry school, and a church. and many subdivisoins on off roads. Many children walk home along this road. And many pets are killed, Including the dog I called my own for 10 long loving years. And I kept her in a fence. The speed limit is unfortanly 55mph. But the normal speed that people seem to go is around 70-75-80mph. Am I wrong to think this is unfair? In my 15 years of living here I've never seen amyone pulled over. I don't know why but 18wheelers and dump trucks use it as a short cut and fly past my house. We don't live out in the country or anything... I don't understand and my anger grows everyday. I see children walking home along the eadge of the road and I have to turn away for fear of seeing them get hit. I want to do something about it. People always say "Stand up for what you belive in." Well I am. But I don't know how to go about doing it. I need advise. Please.

Go to the next city council meeting and raise hell. You do have to stand up for what you believe in...because nobody else will do it for you. You need to get all of your neighbors together, go to the next city council meeting and you all need to demand that police officers either enforce the speed limit on your street, or lower it...whichever you decide to do. You are their bosses, and they might not change it right away....but keep on them enough and they will eventually do it to get you off their backs.

*Sigh*....its the same everywhere my dear. Heres your best bet....contact the local sheriff or PD and ask to speak with the Patrol Division Commander. Explain your concerns. I know they'll stick a car out there for you but after a day or so and the cop leaves it starts all over again.
Changing signage may help but usually roads in your town have to have speed limits changed and approved through the state. Even if it's a city or town road. Again remember...you're talking a sign. We all know people do not pay attention to signs. Its horrible driving habits and you can't blame the cops because they're slaves to the radio. They honestly would not mind shooting laser versus answering a domestic complaint or worse, some pissing contest between neighbors over who has the right to cut branches off of a tree that overhangs another's property. Sadly that's where your police officers are...answering all the bullcrap complaints of knuckleheads while a 7 year old is just waiting to be waffled out in front of your house by a tractor-trailer truck.
Call the patrol captain/commander first. Tell him or her that you felt it was much more courteous to make your concerns known to them directly instead of calling the mayor or town selectman.
I suspect you may see some quicker results as well for your thoughtfulness. Cops like things done that way you know. It makes the public happy and keeps the politicians off our backs...and they haven't a clue as to what the cops are tasked with anyway.
Good luck

You may want to look into starting a petition in your neighborhood demanding that something be done. Then, with that petition in hand, go before your city council and demand a change. Ask folks at the school and church for help getting the petition started, since they are directly involved in this kind of a dangerous situation, they have a vested interest. (Get the school/school-parents/church employees to sign, too.) Where I live, neighborhoods with this same problem can sign a petition, take it before the city council and ask for some kind of speed deterrent (ie: speed bumps, traffic circles, etc). It may take a while, but it would well be worth sticking to the fight. You should also talk to the local TV stations, especially if you have one that loved to do in-depth investigations and community action reports.

Good for you-I commend you for your caring and concern. This sounds like quite a busy road and a very dangerous situation. Are there any stop signs or traffic lights? You can do as someone else said and start a petition to have the town look into the situation. Word the petition simply, such as, We, the residents, of ____________ St/Ave/Dr,Town/City are concerned about the dangerous situation which exists due to speeding cars, trucks, and other vehicles. We are requesting that you look into the situation and put in the proper traffic devices to curb the speeding.
Then have the people sign it, Signature, address, date signed.
Send it or take it to the mayor or head of your town/area.
Good luck.

You certainly have a problem that actually starts with your parents misunderstanding of your concerns. It's sad that many people are often afraid to call the police simply because they "don't want to get involved." You don't have to do anything more than call the police and explain that there are serious speeding problems in your area and ask for a marked police unit to run traffic periodically. If that doesn't work, many communities have radio and television stations that love to seek stories concerning the "underdog" in specific circumstances. Give them a call and ask for their help! Best wishes!

Call your county commissioner, his phone number should be in the phone book but if not call the DA's office and they can tell you who he is. If you get flack, take a petition around your neighborhood stateing what you feel the speed limit should be and get as many singnatures as possible, your probably not the only one that feels this way. present it to the commisioners office and call the local news stations, they LOVE this kind of stories. Don't wait until a child is killed.

Is this a local street or a state or federal highway? Where you take your concerns will depend upon that.
