A group of about 15 Jr high school students were in from of my house yesterday and one of them threw a rock through my front window. My 15 yr old son was home at the time and chased down and caught up with one of the kids. He told my son the name of the person who threw the rock.
I called the police out to file a report I was told they would most likely not investigate the matter becasue it was not important enough. This is going to cost about $500 to repair, and my insurance deductable is $1000.
I'm trying to get more info about the student from the Jr high school so I can cantact the parents.
Why wont the cops investigate? If someone shoplifted something worth $500 I believe it would be a felony.

i'm not from San Jose but it just may be possible that they simply lack the manpower to investigate. When you called you may have talked to a civilian dispatcher, who is not a police officer, but decided to make this decision on his own. I would find out who the patrol supervisor was on that evening and politely request to speak with him or her and see if you don't get a different answer. the sad fact is that some dispatchers and police are indifferent to what are perceived as minor crimes. sorry about your experience. good luck with the patrol supervisor

Do you really think that the kid actually told your son the truth about who threw the rock? Police won't act on heresay eveidence to a misdemeanor anyway. They have got to see a misdemeanor being committed with their own eyes and if a JUVIE is involved, forget it. If you are really are serious about catching the person who threw the rock, hire a good private investigator, but that will probably cost you more than 500.00 bucks. I know it sux when something like this happens, but it's the way it goes. Maybe you will get lucky with the parents, but I highly doubt it.

Call the police back and have a unit go to your house, its criminal mischief, and is an offense. If that was the exact words the person used when you called, then call Internal Affairs and file a formal complaint. An offense is an offense, and its not up to the police to choose which cases they want to work.

My opinion is this. It has nothing to do with San Jose it has more to do with those donut recepticals we tax paying citizens refer to as police officers. I had $2000.00 stolen from my house and the police here in Yuma az said there was nothing they could do about it because the kid who was seen in my yard that day while I was at work said that he didn't do it.Now there's some mighty fine police work for ya. If I ever decide to change careers I'm going to the nearest Mc Donalds drive through and order what ever it is I need to call myself a cop.Sorry about your window.

I live in San Jose. I believe the reason is because there is no money in it for them or the mayor.

Coz cops don't do $hit, other than intimidating and scaring citizens. Oh and occasionally your high priority murder case.

They are too busy to fight crime at this time..
