police officers work for the Executive branch of the government of which there are 3 parts- the Executive, the legislative, and the judicial. the legistlative branch creates laws, the executive branch executes or carries out the laws, and of course the judicial system sits in judgements of violations of these laws. many make the mistake of thinking that the police are part of the judicial system, they are not- they are used by the executive branch of the government to enforce, not to sentence
