Termination is not covered in the by-laws. Can a governing board just vote to get rid of a member of a non profit organization without cause and if not what is there liability in regard to suit?

ok, my parents are divorced, they have joint custody over me and I live in an apartment here in NY financed by my father. My father has remarried but about 4 months ago, my stepmom moved out of the house and she wants nothing to do with me at all but wants to be married to my dad. So now it's time to apply for college and I was asking my dad for his tax forms. He says he can't release them because my stepmom has filed forms with him and that she doesn't want to release her information at all. I need tax forms from both my parents, so what should I do? I am pratically living on my own right now and everything is just paid by my dad, with some of his stuff lying around here in my apartment which is under his name. I don't believe they had a prenup when they got married so technically, my stepmom has to be legally bound to me no matter what unless she files for divorce. But my dad won't release the tax information because he said she will divorce him if he does. i'm 17, wht should i do?

In the USA the legal age to drink is 21 while here in Ireland and the Uk it's 18, is that why Ireland has such a big drinking culture or if the age went up to 21 would 18 year olds still drink anyway considering 16 and 17 year olds drink now?

What do you think, should the age for drimking alcohol be increased?

Does anyone else get really irritated by smokers who constantly whinge on about their rights?

First they were complaining that they aren't allowed to smoke in public places and now they are moaning about how they can't smoke and drive....Can they seriously not go a couple of hours without a cigarette... how do these people get through a day at work?

Don't you wish they would realise that there are other people in the world and that their choices are having an impact on our health...

Do we not have a choice about whether we breathe in second hand smoke and whether we get in a car crash because someone was smoking and dropped ash on their leg...

I personally am pleased that the government are finally doing something about the smokers and giving people like me the chance to be healthy...

If Bush suceeds, the right of appeal for Death Row inmates will be swept away. As many of them are found innocent, and a disproportionate number of them are coloured, isn't it just an attempt to blame coloured people for crime, and sacrifice them in order to make whites feel better? Is it not true that more crime is commited by whites, but they can afford better lawyers? Is it not a fact that the police force is institutionally racist?

This happened in Massachusetts , my lawyer had it dismissed without prejudice once then it was appealed . It is in the district court but I have not been arrested or indicted . I thought you had to be indicted or info. from the superior court to show readiness for trial . Since I was not arrested does this mean its a misdemeanor ? Do you think the DA is looking for a plea ?

I have a sort of simple matter that I cannot seem to resolve on my own.

I had some repair work done by a roofing company. The gave me a price and scope of work and we agreed. Then I agreed to let them put a cheaper product on the roof and cut other corners. I told the guy at my house doing the work that I would be glad to use the money saved to hire them to do some other minor deck repair work as an offset. He verbally agreed.

When it was all done, the roofing company billed me for the original job plus more for the deck work.

They have now sent me a letter moving for an Order of Default.

I have offered to pay the original amount. They have not responded. I have requested that they show me any documents showing an agreement about the second job. He said if I have a lawyer I can get that from him. That sounds bogus.

I do not know what to do other than hire help from someone. Can a paralegal help?

I live in California and we have these neighbors that some ofmy neighbors and I can't stand. At first it was just a couple and their baby. Recently they rented a room and my landlord doesn't know about it yet. These neighbors are loud, rude, and dirty. They throw their trash out of the window and are very destructive with blinds, screens, floors everything. That aside they smoke and throw their butts out on our courtyard and recently I've had to sweep ashes from our laundry rooms. The worst thing is that we have keys to the main entrance that say DO NOT DUPLICATE and we only gave 2 copies for each apartment and we know they have at least 4. What can we do and how do we do it?

I notice that some guys out on bail fail to appear as they promised for their trial.

My suggestion: if you fail to appear, the presumption of guilt changes from innocent to guilty absent a showing that your failure to appear was uncontrollable [hospitalized or jailed elsewhere].

Any discussion?

Las Vegas, traffic Division admitted publicly a year ago that thousands of innocent people have been victims of their faulty computer system coupled with a huge back-log of notifications due to their actual location change. I am one who has proven to the courts yet each time I've requested amendments to my records, they screw it up worse. My rights AND life have been so violated & screwed up because of this and still is ongoing. Why is it so hard to get the 'law' to protect you from itself? No one seems to want to help when challenging the 'law'. Why is it so hard to get a simple letter I need from them to tell DMV to totally REMOVE erroneous suspensions they've admittingly caused? If they fixed their system, then why does my record continue to show that I owe huge fines that I've proven to have paid? I haven't driven for 2 years, lost job opportunities that require clean driving record (which I really do have). Legal aide type agencies deny help,(not a priority), so WHAT, WHO?

These things have been confusing me for years.

1. How is it that if an adult attacks an adult, it's considered "physical assault", but when a kid attacks a kid, it's considered "bullying"?

2. How is it that when a bunch of high school kids tape a freshman to a goalpost in his underwear, it's "hazing", but when adults do the exact same thing, it's "sexual assault"?

3. How is it that, even though minors have almost no constitutional rights, they can still be tried in adult court?

There are NUMEROUS cases of children being raped, molested, murdered. I'm SICK to my stomach over this. I'm sick of hearing about another child being raped or killed. If you do a local search of sex offenders in your area you will find you are surrounded by many, regardless whether you're in a large or small city. I personally feel there is a mental illness epidemic going on to cause so much sick violence in this world we live in, I know deep in my heart if peoples minds were healthy there would not be all this sick crap going on. But what should we do?? How can we stop this. Why are our children surrounded by sick, evil perverts everywhere? And why in the HELL are these sickos being allowed out of jail so easily?? WHAT do you think is a good solution to all of this?? Why isn't the president making THIS a priority????

OK, what would you do?

I ordered a monitor from one of the very large electronics firms. It arrived, and sat around my place for a month unopened. I finally opened it, and to my surprise I found the invoice for the monitor, but the enclosed item was a new laptop worth four times as much. I checked my CC company and the merchant. The charge is for the lower priced monitor; no record of the laptop anywhere. Would you return the item as a sign of good faith and indicate the error, or keep the higher priced item, and say 'serves them right. Now I have to go order another monitor.' Besides no one will ever find out. Perhaps another consumer ended up with the reverse situation. But I'm figuring they already reported it and got THEIR money back.

Footnote: Would your finances (i.e., you make $25,000 a year versus $150,000 a year) make a difference in your decision?

Examples: 1. The man who worked hard to save $59,000. & government officials confiscated all of it for not filing a form requiring him to disclose how much he was leaving the country with. 2. A woman who didn't know that her 1st divorce papers had to be signed by the judge before she could legally be remarried & because of a 6 day overlap of 2nd marraige prior to judge signing 1st divorce, her 2nd husband legally ANNULLED their 10 yr. marraige. This 'legal loophole' left her penniless which enabled her abusive husband able to win primary custody. 3. Who helps protect your rights when you don't have the money. legal know-how and it's the 'law' itself that you've become a victim of?
