My professor recently published a large portion of an essay I wrote for her class in a major, American newspaper without my consent. The article did credit my name and, as far as understand, I was not harmed by the publication. However, by submitting that assignment, did I transfer the copyright to her?

Federal prosecutors said in a criminal complaint that Democratic fund-raiser Norman Hsu pressured investors to make campaign contributions through him in order to raise his public profile -- then used his prominence to find more investors for illegal Ponzi schemes.

The three-count complaint was unsealed yesterday by the U.S. attorney in Manhattan. The complaint also says Mr. Hsu gave people money to make some donations, which is illegal.

• Fraud Charges: Prosecutors allege that Democratic fundraiser Norman Hsu ran a phony business, and paid initial investors with money from newer ones.
• Election Law Charges: The complaint also alleges that Mr. Hsu donated money to politicians under other people's names -- or reimbursed them for their donations.
• Bottom Line: If convicted, he faces a maximum of 20 years in prison on each of two counts of fraud, and five years on the election count

Ok, i know someone that lives in the projects (family members) and there is this cop living there (who knows why, guess to watch people and be nosy) anyhow is it legal for him to have a camera in his window?
What if that was my family member with a camera in their window would it still be okay or not?
Also in their lease it states that their is to be no firearms not even BB guns on the property but yet he packs in shot guns. I know he is a cop but when he comes home shouldn't he have to leave those guns outside that fence?
What if someone broke into his apt. and stole that shotgun and killed one of those kids down there?
Who's fault would it be then? The cop or the city that put him there at them apts?

Is any of this legal? what can people do about this?
Thanks

On the National News in my country we were witness to yet another example of overuse of power by the US police force.

Our family were horrified to see a man held down by about 4 cops and given electric shocks.
His crime: the audacity to speak his mind at a university political lecture.
Is America the land of the free or the oppressed.
The police seem to be so brave with weapons in their hands

My father-in-law was killed from injuries resulting from a car accident in May. They had him packaged and immobilized when they got him to the hospital. They should have flown him from the scene because it was a rollover accident. I'm an EMT and I know that's what I would have done. Anyways...I was working in the Intensive Care Unit that day. I didn't find out he was in the ER until about 6 hours later. In the ER they said he was combative because of all the pain. They said he wouldn't let them near him with meds. I know he was just scared of getting morphine because it put him on a ventilator last time there. He supposedly "made" them take him off the backboard. They had him sign an AMA (Against Medical Advice). I've never heard of people signing that to get off of a backboard. They said they offered to sedate him, put him on a ventilator, and fly him out. They should have went ahead and sedated him and sent him out.

Is it true no matter what that you have to still pay for a mobile phone that you havent got as it was stolen & because you signed a 18 month contract. I purchased a mobile phone on contract about 2 yrs ago with 3. I had it for about 5 months & it got stolen, I reported it to the police & got a Crime reference number. I rang 3, explained what had happend & gave them the crime reference number & told them to cancel the mobile phone. 3 months later I received letters from 3 saying that I owed a large amount of money & if I didnt pay It would be sent to a debt collecting company. I rang then to ask what the large amount of money they said I owed was for & they told me for calls & line rental upto the remainder of the contract. I told them I was not going to pay for something that got stolen & that had been cancelled. Im still receiving threating letter saying they are going to take me to court if I dont pay the rest of the remainder of the contract.

I am just asking because I am infuriated at a letter I received via usps stating that I had won a certain amount of money with a fraudulent check enclosed. I just happen to work for a bank so I know the routing number and account number was invalid, but I feel horrible for the people that have fallen victim for these type of scams. I want to do something about it.

Anyone want to offer some advice?

My apartment's balcony overlooks another property, a house with a small apartment with a carport in it that people rent from them. These people are terrible. Not only do they have mulitple people living there (i've seen up to 8 cars there), these people are probably illegally in the US as well. There is trash, garbage, buckets, pop bottles and yard waste all over their yard and driveway, and also on the road in front of their driveway. Their bushes and other plants are overgrown, the grass in their yard is over two feet tall!
I've tried calling my city hall and I just have left messages to the code enforcement officer. I've called the police for advice and they don't can't do anything about it until it's checked out.
Does anyone have any advice? I can't go and talk to the people, since they do not speak any English and are very rude when we've asked them to turn down the 'musica'.
Help! I can't take standing on my balcony and looking down on this anymore.

We are required to have a pre-sixth grade physical. This was completed, and the required form completed by the MD. However, I submitted the form without the blood pressure, pulse, ht and wt, since that is personal medical information. (It was normal). The MD checked the box that says "no restrictions."
The school has just told my son today he cannot attend school tomorrow because the form was incomplete. The principle quoted "FERPA" but would not provide written documentation of the law stating we MUST comply with providing the PMI. I have phone calls into numerous departments trying to find an answer to this. No response from any. The HIPAA office does not answer, either. The people in the school "nurse's" office are not nurses. They are not bound by HIPAA. What happened to our right to privacy?

Black boys (BB) go to a party that they were invited to but were denied entry when they got there by a group of whites. The whites beat up the blacks using fists and beer bottles. Only 1 white man charged, and that was a misdemeanor battery charge. The white man served no time, paid no penalty & was given probation. No hate crime was filed although he said the party was for whites only. I personally believe the charges fit the crime. 2 days later one of the white boys racially mocks of one of the BBs who got beat up at the party. White boy then gets punched in face. There’s conflicted testimony re: if white boy lost consciousness. He was hit multiple times. Fight occurs at school so white boy goes to hosp. & is released within 2 hours with no damage except for a swollen eye and a few bruises. BBs are charged with a Felony assault bec. "a tennis shoe was a deadly weapon". BBs have huge bond, go to jail. These charges don't fit.
Tennis shoe vs beer bottle, which is deadlier?

who else thinks this andrew meyer, the tasered student from the university of florida, got what he deserved? i'm sick of hearing people complain about how this is some sort of attack on the first amendment. this was not censorship. this was a police response to a moderator asking them to calm down an overzealous conspiracy nut who was being nothing more than a nuissance. depending on what video you watch you can see a moderator asking the police to step in and get the guy under control. he refused to calm down. then it looks as if the moderator asked to have him removed. again he refused. they were within their rights to arrest him after that on grounds of disorderly conduct. he resisted arrest and so they tased him. let's say someone was doing that at your church, or in a classroom. would we even give it a second thought?
