My apartment's balcony overlooks another property, a house with a small apartment with a carport in it that people rent from them. These people are terrible. Not only do they have mulitple people living there (i've seen up to 8 cars there), these people are probably illegally in the US as well. There is trash, garbage, buckets, pop bottles and yard waste all over their yard and driveway, and also on the road in front of their driveway. Their bushes and other plants are overgrown, the grass in their yard is over two feet tall!
I've tried calling my city hall and I just have left messages to the code enforcement officer. I've called the police for advice and they don't can't do anything about it until it's checked out.
Does anyone have any advice? I can't go and talk to the people, since they do not speak any English and are very rude when we've asked them to turn down the 'musica'.
Help! I can't take standing on my balcony and looking down on this anymore.

I live in a nice apartment complex that was recently built. They live in an older (60's or 70's built) house. I'm in no way trashy at all, and I am not flocking together. You people are very judgmental. I was looking for advice, not for you to tell me to move into a new apartment because of one trashy house. By the way, I HAVE an education, I work full time and I am a US Navy Veteran. Take a good look at yourself before you pass judgment onto others!! And thanks to those who actually gave me a HELPFUL answer. :)

I feel for you. i live in a mobile home park hence the term trailer trash and the ones next to me dont mow plus they pile their trash on the back porch. The landlady says they have been evicted but they dont leave and unfortunately, tenants have more rights despite their wrong doing.
Have you spoken with the apt. managers? If that goes nowhere, I would go to the city managers or code enforcers.
Good luck.

Doesn't seem likely they are illegal, otherwise why would they draw attention to themselves by being so messy.

Your city probably has some formal complaint that can be made regarding hazards created by lack of clean up, not to mention smell.

If they were my neighbors I would constantly throw dead varmits (mice, rats and others) into their yard. Someplace where they would have to lift a rock or bucket to find it. With out doubt the smell would get to everyone eventually. And, I wouldn't be the only one complaining.

The next time they get loud, call the police on a disturbance complaint. Call the health department and report the garbage pileups. Check the town's ordinances regarding trash, then file a formal complaint if prohibited.

That is terrible. I would think maybe the health department or check with the fire department there has to be laws governing how many people can live in there.

if, when you call the city or the township, you only get a recording... KEEP CALLING AND CALLING AND CALLING AND CALLING AND CALLING AND CALLING AND CALLING AND CALLING AND CALLING...
see how aggravating it is. call every day or twice a day until you get someone to talk to you. if nothing else take lots of pictures and then take your neighbor to court as a nuisance. also, if the music is loud, CALL THE POLICE!!!
once you give up you have lost!!!
good luck, been there done that!!!

You can get an education, better yourself, and move to a better neighborhood. Until then, "Birds of a feather flock together."

You are a US Navy veteran and you have to come to the losers on yahoo for advice?

I somehow think you would also consider me a trashy neighbor.. I was not put upon this earth to live up to your expectations. If you don't like it, move.

You can't better them so better yourself so you don't have to live around people like that.

I am a single woman who makes 65K per year and all I can afford is a very nice home in a nice neighborhood one a street that has only ONE trashy neighbor. I don't believe I need to "better" myself in order to ask that my neighbor simply keep their yard tidy. I am appalled at the number of responses asking the original post to "better" themselves". What is wrong with you people?? And YOU who say the poster should move?? Because you're too lazy to just keep your yard tidy?? Sometimes it's hard to believe this is America.
