I like to watch Law and Order, and other crime shows and I allways hear murder in the 1st 2nd and 3rd degree just curious as to what it means.

So often it seems that some
judges/juries/jurisdictions/states
have really ridiculous sentencing and application of laws.
I mean like places that come down hard on minor offenders but let serious criminals go on technicalities. Which are some of the worst and best that you know of? Any crazy examples to illustrate your response???

Recently a bunch of Somalians moved into apartments in our neighborhood, which is all good. BUT today they had their children going door to door, first asking for jobs but when I told them "No work" they just asked for money. I told them "no money" and sent them on their way.

The oldest kid was 8 or 9 and the youngest was toddling in diapers, no parents to be seen.

Who or what agency do I call to inform them of this? I know for a fact they get more help than anyone else from the government, and I am pissed they are begging me AT MY DOOR for money, at their young ages.

If I am not a member of a protected minority, is my life worth less?
Who decides if it was hatred that motivated a crime... should we prosecute people for thoughts now? How can we be certain?

my boyfriend and I have been together for over a year with the exception of a 2 week break. During that break (when we did not think we would get back together) a "friend" of mine tried to seduce him, showing up at his apartment in her underwear, generally just throwing herself at him. When we got back together he tole her that she needed to stop. When that didn't work I told her to leave us alone, in turn she sent me nasty messages through myspace and facebook, and keyed my car (i don't have proof it was her, but I have a pretty good idea) and was stalking me and watching my house, and at the same time she was calling my boyfriend consistantly, even when he asked her to leave him alone. Can I get a restraining order against this girl? How much would it cost? What are the general terms of a restraining order? I am in Tennessee. Please give me some advice!

Is it legal for a collections agency to lie to debtors and give false ultimatums and threats in order to collect money? Who can I report this to so it doesnt happen to others? I was just told that I had 11 days to pay a bill that I didn't even know about, and if I didn't pay I would have a judgement placed against me without any chance of it being reversed. After a little homework I found out that I actually had 90 days to pay the bill from the time that I was reported to collections. I called the employee's manager to report this and asked if he condoned this activity and he told me it was none of my f***Ing business what he condoned and hung up on me. Is there anything I can do about this?

A debt collector wants to sue me for a bill I owe but I am unemployed. She says she will garnish my husbands wages, and that we are not having a hardship because we own a house, it's considered an asset (we bought it after we where married but my name is not on it). How can she have the nerve to say we are not in a hardship. Can she legally garnish my husbands wages?

I have lived in the city of Toronto for 7 yrs now I have never heard anyone called a dergoatory racial name - except by people who are clearly mentally unstable Everyone has health care There are free shelters for the homeless healthcare included pschiatric care as well
I have never seen anyone denied a job or a promotyion based
on sexual orientation religion colour or political opinion
I have never seen a hand gun (although hand gun crimes do happen) - But not once have I seen a pistol a rifle or anything of the sort - When I go out at night to walk the dog - I expect to be just fine When I walk through a "black" nieghbourhood I do not need any protection and I do not need to worry - There are no area's of this city that police do not or can not walk around in Black Asian and other officers are visably seen and or recruited Gay and lesbians are sought out to join the police forceLaw order and are established the Charter of freedoms and rights is respected

Can you get arrested if you are having sex in a parked car/van in a slightly wooded area at night time? Does age matter? Can you get arrested for having sex in a school parking lot at night? What about in a very discrete part of the park at night? What would happen if you were all these places but you werent actually havimg sex, just foreplay? Ok, finally, wut about if you were kissing in a parked car, could you get arrested then?

To purchase a TracFone from a store, and sell it for more money in another state?

Senario: I work at a Dollar General in the state of PA, people come from MI, NY, OH, and purchase TracFones by the dozen. My superiors, tells me to let them purchase two at a time, but don't refuse the sale if the they come back, and to call the police, as it is a "scam". I myself call it capitalism, and think that is nothing different than what our government is doing. So my question again, is; is it illegal to purchase a tracfone and sell it for more in another state?

I know inmates make a little bit of money while in a state prison. They do small jobs for very little income. I know that very little income is still better than no income.
I'm owed thousands in back child support, and never received anything. My daughters father will finally be going to a State prison for numerous felonys, and I was just wondering how much money I can expect to make while he's in there. Even $10 per month is better than nothing at all.

It's been almost 3 month alreay...
I was passing in the middle of the red light. Then I recognized that it was red light!!!!! in the middle of passing. I was thinking something else at that time. It was so crazy to do that. No accident luckily. I think I have been caught on the red light enforcement camera because there's red light enforcement sign and cameras, but I haven't received any ticket by mail. The cameras were broken at that time maybe. However, if I had caught on the camera, I need to pay for the ticket. Is there any way to get free driving record or check if I have a traffic ticket on my record? It's Atlanta, GA. Thanks.

Immigration is good.
Probably Immigration laws are failing because they are old, odd and inefficient, but Congressman and you U.S Citizens can reform it!!!

I just started this job as a night auditor June 4th, 07 and was doing well. Yesterday, I was called in for a "meeting" and was told I was terminated on these terms: Uncompliance with company policy with cashbank procedure. Some of it I understand and some of it I think it total BS and I need to express how BS this all is and what I can do legally for justice.

A.) They said that the last four shifts I was working I had over a hundred dollars each night missing from my cashbank. (little blue bags with my money.)
1.) My cashbank stayed on top of the money safe in the back office where I did my work each night. My banks WERE THERE BEFORE I ARRIVED TO WORK each night and the account assistant picked them up before my shift ended each morning.
2.) I was not trained or told otherwise to move my banks to another location. I used my best judgement to keep them there instead of in a drawer in the front desk, but...

He's now making a disicion on whether to close Guantanamo. It looks like he's going to close it. Why did he have to drag it out and make an @ss out of himself for such a long time. It was inevitably going to be closed.
And the resistence to closing it seems to be that Cheney didn't want to move the prisioners. He didn't want them to get undeserved legal rights. Who made him judge and jury??

I recently quit my job ( a month ago) and now my boss refuses to return my personal property. These are things i owned (books, etc) prior to being employed with this company. He does not answer emails nor returns phone calls.

Does he have the right to hold on to my property? Is he breaking the law? Can I involve the police? What are my options. I live in Texas, if that is any help.

I dont owe him any money, and he has sent my final paycheck.

Is there anything on line that I can fill out that I can use to state who gets my stuff if I should die? Also what my wishes would be if I were in a vegetative state, and about organ donation, cremation wishes, etc? I want to do something more formal than just writing it all out, but not through a lawyer or anything. Preferably free. Any good resources?

The only reason is that we have spineless politicians on both sides that are paid for by US corporations.

People, the United States of America defeated the imperialist Japanese and Nazi Germany at the same time. We've put a man on the moon and cured many of the world's worst diseases. Don't tell me we can't get rid of those law breakers who are stealing American jobs and keeping wages low.

Keep contacting those worthless politicians who support amnesty and not our laws.

One week ago, my ex boyfriend was hitting me as he has done for 8 years. He was trying to strangle me when I bit his arm. I got away and called the police. Well, they came and since my bruises had not shown up yet and he had a bite mark on his, I was arrested for domestic battery. I now have a no contact order from the judge. He is living in my home that I own myself. The house has been in my family for 50 years. I have no money and no job( he wouldn't let me work). I need to evict him legally. I can't just go throw him out because of the no contact order. I have tried to make him leave before. Once he threw me through the sliding glass doors. Another time he smashed a brick into my face leaving me permanently disfigured. I can no longer take this. I need him out before he destroys my family home. Also, all the utilities are in my name. Is it legal to have them turned off?
