Recently I received a ticket for an open container in public in New Jersey. This is a first offense and I have never had any problems with the law before. Any idea what the penalty would be like? Also is this considered a misdeamanor? I have to go to court for it so I'm a little nervous about what the penalty is going to be like.

She is the married mother and teacher who was impregnated by her 6th grade student, was sentenced never to see him again, got pregnant by him again, was sent to prison and, then released. When she was released, the two of them married.

I am curious as to what people think about her, her crime and punishment, and her subsequent marriage.

I've often wondered this. Is there any major or even minor difference between the two, or are they just two titles for the same thing.

I have a predicament. I am staying with a friend while looking for an apartment in NYC. Along the way I lost my passport. What is the absolute quickest way to get a re-issue (it was my only form of picture ID so I am a little freaked out). The original passport was issued in NYC and would still be valid but I need a new one for, obviously, Identification purposes. Is it even possible without any other form of picture ID. I do not drive since I live in the city and had always been using the passport for ID, payroll stuff, etc. Any help with this stressful situation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I know the question made no sense, so I'll ask it here.

I'm an American citizen and considering a marrying a woman from Peru. She has a 6 year old son. The father of the child has repeatedly told her he will never allow his son to come with her. Can he STOP the son from coming with her? Can he slow down the process?

Some background information on the situation, to better help you answer this:

They were never married. There is no legal custody of the child. He has lived with her all his life. The father lived with her until the boy was 2 years old. He moved out and has made sporadic, court-ordered child support payments. He does visit the boy once every 2 weeks but for only hours at a time.

why is it that we have to ask permision before suing a major business? for example; your local water company left an excessive amount of chlorine in the water and let it reach public mouths. my 2 month old daughter drinks the water and dies. later autopseys (however you spell that) show the cause of death being the intake of extreme amounts of chlorine. dhs comes knocking on my door and for a year, im hurrassed by lawyers and paparrazzi, adding to my pain and suffering.(this is all hypothetical). why is it that i have to get permission to sue the water company for all they are worth?

My bestfriend got a letter from a collection agency that he owed $8000 due to a lawsuit regarding illegal downloading! They attached the court order and he did not even know those songs on the list! He cannot afford a lawyer to fight this and now since they are in collections, the judgement has already been issued. Is there a law out there to help him remedy this situation?? Or any other similar instances that happed to other people??? I think this is ridiculous for the Recording Ind of America to do this. Now my friend is depressed over this! HELP!

I was involved with a woman when I was 16, and she ended up having my first child. The mother and I used to get along well, and she wanted me to spend everyday with my daughter. However, once I got a new girlfriend (who is now my fiancee), she stopped wanting me to see my daughter. It's because she thought that we might have been able to get back together, and I hurt her when she found out that wasn't possible, so now she's trying to hurt me back by keeping me from my daughter.

There was a time when I was still able to see my daughter a couple times a week. However, I could tell there was some jealousy and hard feelings between us because our daughter preferred my girlfriend and I instead of the mother and her boyfriend. Then a few weeks ago, the mother said, "I don't think you're going to be seeing her anymore," picked up my daughter, and walked away. Is that legal, to just not let a father see his daughter anymore? I love her with all my heart, and I'm devastated without her.

This is complicated but I thought I would ask to see if anyone has any words of advice or paths to follow for my family. My great Aunt was recently diagnosed with cancer and has spent the last couple months in the hospital. My Aunt, who you can't even explain in words, goes to the hospital with a lawyer so my great Aunt will sign the power of attourney over to her and also all of the things in her house. Prior to that, the power of attourney belonged to my great aunt's sister, and everything was to be split between all my Great Aunt's neices and nephews. This isn't an issue of those neices and nephews (one being my dad) getting money and belongings, it's an issue that my aunt would stoop that low, and is now pushing my GreatAunt to death by saying, your not going to make it much longer and there's nothing more to look forward to. My dad is thinking about hiring a lawyer because of the state my great aunt was in when she signed over the power of attourney. Does he have any chance?

The question is NOT:

My ex is calling me and harassing me on the phone by leaving angry messages on my cell and my house phone. I have contacted the phone company and I can't put a block on the phone because he lives in NY and I live in Ca. There is no way to block him. He won't stop calling me and harassing me.
Is there any way to file a harassment charge via a form with the police department? I have two of the phone messages saved on my voicemail for proof. Is that enough proof?
Thank you for any advice you can give me. He is unstable.

Can someone call the police on my girlfriend for smoking marijuana and have her take a drug test to proove that she uses marijuana?

Now If a police office caught her in the act I suppose they would either arrest her or issue her a citation for drug abuse. My question is do they have the right to invade her privacy and make her take an on the spot drug test or would that be in invasion of privacy?

CSIS has said this is a bad idea - we don't like to tip off the bad guy in Canada thats why we catch them and the American don't -

PM - not listening trying to impress Bush

Allowing foriegn police and peace officers to cross the border with guns - Yep now any old hill billy Sherrif from some back woods in the US is soon going to be able to come to our nation packing

This is a very stupid and bad idea - Who is Harper trying to please in this - Canadians ? No of course not

Why do we have to copy the Yanks at all - They are not the example I would want to follow -

Why is it that a conservative government in Canada = Americanisation of our land and law ?
