I'm a 50-year old married woman, and I was parked in a lot, waiting for my husband, when all of a sudden I heard an explosion, and I was thrown out of the car. The 18-year old that hit me with his car had just been fired and was "in a state of rage", was preparing to back out of his parking space, hit the accelerator harshly and crashed into my car. An ambulance came and rushed me to the local hospital. I was diagnosed with severe head trauma, and was in intensive care for a week. To complicate matters,my health prior to the accident was not the best.I suffer from Lupus, and this accident has progressed the nature of the disease. My recovery has been slow and there has been no progress for me to get back to the state of health I was in before the accident. The doctors have told me that I have a shorter lifespan. I have been forced to resign my position as a nurse,as I have been unable to carry out my duties from the pain. My husband and I are living on a limited income; he is retired.

i used to be an assistant manager at my last job, where i held a key to the store. i quit and went back to get my final check, which was for about $600. They said they needed my uniforms and key...I turned in my uniform, but I think I lost my key the week earlier while snowboarding several hours away. The manager said she could not give me the check without the key. How can she hold my $600 when I have no way of retrieving the key hours away buried in the snow. The key only says "do not duplicate" on it, no name of where it goes to. What should I do?

In my opinion, prison is meant to reform, not to punish. Trying to reform criminals while keeping them locked up with lifetime inmates with nothing to lose makes in nearly impossible to help rehabilitate.

We also have limited resources, many children are uninsured, yet all the inmates in for life get free health care. I think as a practical measure, anyone who it is decided cannot reenter society should be COMPLETELY removed from it.

I gave a notice at my job because I had been working there 11 months and requested an evaluation and a raise. (hadn't had either even though the policy says an evaluation after 6 mo) I am a good employee, do what I am supposed to, show up on time etc. My boss copped out and said that they give bonuses but not really rasies. That among other things added up which made me decide to take a job I was offered, and I gave a full two week notice plus a few days. A an ad was placed in the paper for my replacment which was a dollar more an hour than I was making and said experience a plus but not a must. They were willing to hire someone without exp for more than they were willing to pay me. Am I being over sensitive saying my boss is a butt hole?

A guninea pig for Perry???? I think not!!! While listening to NBC’s local news report this morning, I am repulsed by the lack of gratitude and shallowness of a local citizen regarding Governor Perry’s suggestion to vaccinate 6th grade girls with a vaccine that can prevent the HPV virus which time and time again has been linked to the onset of cervical cancer. I watched as this young mother held her daughter in a public venue shouting to reporters that “over her dead body, would her daughter be Perry’s guinea pig.” How shallow and narrow minded can a parent be? I have a very dear friend whose 18 year old daughter is cursed with this terrible disease. Promiscuous??? NO, not all, rather a teenager who made a rash decision in a moment of passion that has led to this virus. Does that make my friend a bad parent or less than holy? Can I scream NO loud enough to make the people who are up in arms about this listen?
I have 2 boys, 10 and 12, so why am I up in arms about this? I have never seen such a ridiculous rebellion in my entire life. Do you think that if Governor Perry suddenly suggested a vaccine for Prostate Cancer prevention that I would be screaming at the tops of my lungs that my boys rights are being violated? Absolutely not I wouldn’t. Why???? Because I have more concern with my children’s lives and their health than I do for making an appearance on television or ranting about public about how they aren’t getting a fair shake? Are the parents of these young girls so shallow and narrow minded that they wouldn’t allow their daughters to be protected from such an evil virus, one that if contracted could leave them with a disease that would lead them to an early grave? It’s high time that parents start being parents and stop being friends or civil rights activist to their children. If they want to have a voice, let it ring with the fact that they took advantage of giving their child an extension to their happiness and ability to lead a life without sickness or disease. Let their voices ring with praise for the fact that we live in a country that has the wealth to be able to study these viruses and have the medical technology to be able to offer these vaccines to our children.
I for one am happy that we have a governor that has the backbone to finally stand up and say…let’s mandate things that will help our children. Let’s give them a chance at life that they may not have otherwise had if one of the thousands of pedophiles or rapist, God forbid should have their way with them while our heads are turned, screaming about how “their rights are being violated.”
It’s not my nature to be angry or hostile. But to the people who see this a violation of their rights… I say to you… whose really violating your children’s rights? Perhaps these people are gamblers and ready to roll the dice on whether their daughters will come into contact with HPV. Seems like such a thoughtless conclusion to pass up on this vaccine. I for one would throw a loaded dice, knowing that the end result would save my daughter’s life. My mom always taught me that if I didn’t have something nice to say, I shouldn’t say anything at all. To the woman crying about her daughter being a guinea pig for Governor Perry…I wonder how loudly she would be spouting off in front of the camera’s if they were covering her daughter’s death from cancer linked to HPV in the unfortunate event that her daughter obtained this virus? A girl doesn’t have to be promiscuious to contract a virus… A parent does have to be ignorant though to block her from having a vaccine to prevent it.

Was looking to become a lawyer at one point but became a teacher instead - but one thing always bugged me - how can you defend someone when you think (or even know!) they ar guilty, yet they say they are not. I realise its your job to 'get them off' but do you ever worry youve just got a guilty person from begin sent to jail? How do you cope with that? Also if they tell you what they did you have to report it right? Do lawyers keep it themselves if they think they can win the case? cheers
