No long answer is needed. It's illegal. It violates the Hatch Act, a fed'l law. It also violates Oklahoma state law and the ethical standards governing elected officials.

I don't know specifically for Oklahoma, but in many states it's against the law for anyone seeking public office to campaign while holding any type of government job. The exception being if you are an elected official, running for your position, or another elected one.

NO! The taxpayers are paying the officer to do a job which he/she is obviously not doing if they are putting up signs and meeting people. Kind of reminds me of the scandal here in Chicago with the city workers putting up signs for our Governor. They all lost their jobs.
