If we take our total rationale for a particular punishment (let us say, a fine of $500 for shoplifting) as having various objectives or rationales (vengeance, incapacitation, reduction of future violations by showing the example of the punishment to other citizens, etc.) how much of that rationale for that specific punishment is rightly afforded the objective of reducing such offenses future? Is the punishment intended to reduce the likelihood of similar violations in the future? What percentage of total rationale ought rightly be afforded deterrence?

I am working to have a felony drug offense possibly expunged or sealed in kentucky. I was told that I may first want to file a motion to vacate the plea but it has been 5 years as of july. So I also need to know if anyone knows the statute of limitations regarding the time limit to file the motion to vacate as well. The case involved domestic violence with me being the victim and ended with a trafficking charge due to me not being willing to testify against my abuser. I am currently enrolled in a criminal justice program and will graduate in June '07 but cannot enter the field with my charge. Ky has a 5 year wait for expungements after all time is served. For me that will not be completed til Oct '06. I really want to be able to help other women who have been abused and would appreciate any assistance in this matter.

Hi I am just looking for some intelligent and reasonable ideas on both sides here. I respectfully request if you are gonna rant to either be somewhat logical or go somewhere else.

Do you believe freedom is more important or is feeling safe and please tell me why.

"President Bush has quietly claimed the authority to disobey more than 750 laws"
